Bandit has been doing very well until today. Today all he wants to do is sleep and lay around. I'm hoping it is either the weather or everything catching up to him. No sparkle in his eyes this morning.

It has only been five days. Recovery for the first couple weeks can be a roller coaster. Do you best to enjoy the ride.
Bandit may also be overdoing it. Confinement and rest with nothing but short leashed potty time are vital to a safe and speedy recovery.
Try to Be More Dog and consider reviewing Jerry's Required Reading List for lots of recovery tips, or downloadthe Tripawds e-books for fast answers to common concerns and much more helpful recovery and care recommendations.

Day 5 was when I joined this community - it was probably the hardest day and I was searching for information on what to expect. Remember that at this point, all of the hospital meds are out of his system. Try to stay on top of his pain management , and call your vet if you have concerns. Many of us had to adjust pain meds about this point (higher or lower dosage, or even a different med). Keep him quiet, short leashed potty breaks (we kept a log so that I knew when I really had to get Otis outside, and when I could just let him sleep if he had no interest). The good news is that Day 5 is halfway to Day 10, which is when many dogs get their staples out, and for most, the improvement is amazing! Just hang in there!
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.

I'm a hanging...I had not jumped off into the deep end yet. He seemed better at lunch. I am concerned that we have another line of storms head our way tonight. Thank God for the thundershirt! Have a great day!

Ohh...no worries about going off the deep end. First thing we do with every new member.is attach a lifeline to you in case you get too close to the edge!
I joined this community on Day six. My first post was something along the lines of..."Its six days since amputation. I fear I've made a horrible decision!"
I learned, as we all do, the first couple of weeks is full of ups and downs. And that's why it's called a roller coaster ride. I know it doesn't make it any easier knowing this, it should be a little bit reassuring.though.
Eating? Drinking? Pooping? Peeing? Of course, if you have any concerns contact your vet.
Keep us updated and TRY not to worry! Yeah, good luck with that! And now Bandit has thunderstorms to deal with...ugh!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
