I'm a new Tripawd member and tripod "pawrent..."  I found Apollo through LRRoF...saw his face online..and had to read a bit about him, they rescued him from the pound the day he was to be euthanized.  It mentioned he was missing a leg... it made me want him more. I drove over 3 hours to meet him, just praying he will like me... well.. to make a long story short..he is here with me!

I had lots of questions regarding "Tripods", and I came across this site.. it's been very informative and useful..I've purchased a harness (helps immensely!) and a life jacket (since I have a pool).... Happy to say...he is swimming just fine without it, but I still feel more comfortable with him wearing it.

He is your typical lab! Full of energy, and getting into everything! (counter surfer!!!)  Seems as if without that front leg he can reach further back on the counter to grab what I thought would be out of his reach!

I do have a question.... the pads on his feet are cracking a bit, and he is licking them a bit more lately... is there anything anyone would suggest to ease his discomfort?

Love this site... and all the info on here... Thank You!

Welcome Apollo! Glad you found a loving home.

If your vet ruled out allergies or anything medical and its just dry feet I use Bag Balm. It also has a antiseptic in it.

It also works well for chapped/dry noses.

Welcome to Tripawds.

You are awesome for adopting Apollo!

I used Musher's Secret on my tri-pug Maggie's pads.  We don't live anywhere near snow but I found it worked great to keep her pads supple.  I actually started using it to help her with her traction on slippery surfaces- I found if her pads were dried out she slipped more.

You can read about Musher's Secret and other foot protection ideas in the Tripawds Gear Blog.

Looking forward to hearing more about Apollo.

Thank you all for the "welcome" notes, and the ideas for his pads on his feet...I did try some ointment, but he seemed to lick it off all the time!  I tried to keep him distracted so he wouldn't notice I put it on him, but that worked for about 5 minutes!  ha!

I put the oinment "away" or so I thought...(bathroom counter)..only to find an empty container on the bedroom floor... guess I need to find something not so tastey!

Thanks again for the info and the warm wishes... WE will enjoy all this site has to offer, I'm sure!!!

It's so great to see Apollo's story here, thanks for sharing with everypawdy! I agree, Musher's Secret is probably one of the best solutions for cracked paws and I'm pretty he won't lick it off.

Only a Lab would eat a tube of ointment!

Thanks for giving him such a great home and for being here in the community, we're so glad to have you!
