Hi- I am just home from the vet clinic where our dog had her front leg amputated today.  I had hoped to bring her home tonight, but the poor thing can't even stand up- is that normal??    Her surgery took over 3 hours - seemed long to me.  She has no desire to eat or drink.  I am wondering now if we made the right decision.  Any words of advice - how long until your dog was actually walking ( and pottying ) on his own?

Thanks

Carmen ans Lira dog.

What your experiencing are perctly normal, paranaoid human emotions. I don't know of any dog who has fone home the same day of amputation surgery. With the amount of medications Lira is on right after surgery, it would be surprising for her to even try to stand up. What she needs most right now is time to recuperate, and for yout to be a strong pack leader.

Just remember one thing. There are <a title="Without Regret: A Handbook for Owners of Canine Amputees" href="
