My partner and I are in the process of adopting a three legged American Staffordshire Terrier. We already have a pit bull, Alice, who is 5 years old. We take her hiking in addition to her daily walks.
I'm wondering how easily the new pup will be able to keep
up with a fairly energetic dog. I've been reading about the exercises to help the new dog gain strength, but still unsure of what exactly we are getting ourselves into. The new dog, Kajika, is about 11 months old, his leg was amputated because of an accident. Any insight is greatły appreciated.

Welcome, your future forum posts will not require moderation.

Every dog is different, and you won't know how the two will get along or how the new tripawd will keep up until you try. You will need to take things very slowly, focus on building strength, and watch for signs of exertion. Staffies are strong, but if any dogs sits on a walk, he's gone too far.

Hurricane Rosie is a three legged mastiff that still hikes. Three legged Bart is an AKC master hunting Vizsla who can still run the fields for hours. But this didn't happen overnight. Please take your time and keep us posted.

As a fellow Saffie (or staffie mix) owner, bless you for giving this princess a home. Take your time and build her stamina slowly.  Being a staffie, you may need to be the monitor on how far is far enough.  By nature, they don't tend to want to give up.
