Wow, 4 months ago we were in a puddle of tears, not believing this could be happening to our Liberty, then I found this place. There's no way we would have made it this far without the support and information offered by the generous people on this site. Others before me have say "thank you" just doesn't cut it and I agree.
Libby is totally pawesome and having the time of her life, swimming in the pool and walking in the park. The only bummer is her not being able to go the distance she once did, but hey, she's here right?
We have 3 goals and the first 2 have been met....1...get her to her 10th birthday (check)....2....be able to swim in the pool again (check)....the 3rd goal is to make it into the 1 year club! I'm going to attempt a few picks of her rockin' the swim vest and enjoying the moment....
Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
Aww Libby!! She looks like such a sweetie pie! Congrats on making it this far, she looks happy as a lark! This community is great, right? Makes you want to go to each one's house and give them a hug
Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog

Libby you are PAWESOME!!!! Congratulations pretty beach girl, we are thrilled for you!
Isn't it amazing what a journey it's been so far? I mean to think you would still be able to do so much of the things you live for! Silly humans, I know it took some convincing but these pics say it all.
What talent you have to be able to get on the raft like that, I am really impressed. Let's see a video!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Wow, this is great. I am 6 weeks post amputation, and Madison is struggling a bit to swim. Her head bobs up and down, and I think freaks her out. Plus she has trouble keeping balanced. I think prior to amputation, she was primarily a front leg swimmer, now she needs to rely more on her back legs and 'rudder'! Does this type jacket help with head bob?
cjb, six weeks is not a long time, I would wait a while before you try any real swimming with her. How old /young is she? Why did she lose her leg?
Front leg Tripawds will indeed bob up and down in the water and yes, the Float Coat does wonders to help keep Tripawds from taking on too much water and just over-exerting themselves. Our reviews about the K9 Float Coat by Ruff Wear explain what I mean.

Oh my gosh I see you just ordered a Float Coat with us, thank you so much! We really appreciate that. I know you'll see a big difference in her ability to be confident. But again, take it slow and little by little.
Consider starting a new topic so we can hear all about Madison!

Woohoo Libby! Looks like she's having a blast!
04/09/13- OSA Diagnosis ~ 04/23/13- Left Forelimb Amputation ~ Carboplatin Chemo (6 total)
July 2006-November 18, 2013
I will always love you, Athena.
Thanks again all! cjb...you will be so happy with the Float Coat . It absolutely helps stabilize her while she swims and cuts down on the bobbing. It's interesting to watch her swim now. Her tail, which I call her rudder, was always straight behind her with a little wag. Now, her tail swishes to her right side to compensate for the missing right front leg. I honestly don't think her speed has slowed at all, which surprises me.
I definitely will post a video next time.

Amy, I remember when Libby first joined us here. She has indeed come a long way. Congratulations, and here's to nothing but an action-packed summer for her!
I am not sure you are aware of just how spectacularly awesome Libby is doing, based on those photos. At just 4 months, she is balancing on an unstable surface with that picture-perfect front tripod stance, and she feels stable enough to be giving you a bark or a woo-woo-woo. She is amazing! Of course, we all knew that anyway. (Dakota would never have been able to do that. He would have pooped in your pool from fright and been an honest-to-goodness pawty pooper.)
I fully expect to be making the celebratory margaritas in 8 months for Libby's one-year pawty. I think you should start planning now. Sometimes it's all about expecting and believing, you know? Go Libby!
