In May, we were told our Rottweiler Ava had a soft tissue sarcoma.  We had it removed and it tested as a 1 (which was great)... no radiation, chemo, ect.   Fast forward to July, the soft tissue sarcoma has re-occurred and seems to be fast growing.  We got 2 vet opinions.  Both feel her best chance is for amputation of her front leg.  I am terrified.  We have scheduled her surgery for Thursday August 4th.

Hi Ava and family, welcome. I'm sorry you are having to join our club but glad you found us. Your future posts won't need approval so post away.

How old is Ava? It sounds like she is a good candidate for surgery? That's really good news when 2 vets give the green light.

How can we help you feel better about everything? I know it's hard, and super emotional for us. But Ava needs you to be the strong pack leader, and we know you can do it!

Have you seen Jerry's Required Reading List or the Tripawds e-books yet? Our What to Expect articles are also helpful. Check them out when you can, and ask any questions you'd like so we can make this easier. We are here for you!

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!  We are all right by uour side during the recovery  and right by  your side to celebrate  as Ava starts to love her life to the fullest!!!

We know how scary it is to face this surgery.   You are full of uncertainty,  fear, panic and exhausted  mentally and physically.   Of course, Ava has none of those concerns and is flowing worry free from one moment to the next.  Ahhhh...the bliss of being dog!

We've had many  Rotties here thrive on three like the Warriors they are!  Sure, recovery  is no picnic the first two weeks-ish, but Ava's sparkle will start to come back slowly and then rapid-fire!

Check out the links Jerry gave you and then post any questions you have for us

A couple things you can do to prepare your home now:  Get nonslip scatter rugs for traction   if you have hardwood floors.  If you don't  already have them, get raised food and water bowls. Get lots of "Pill Pockets", or cream cheese, etc. hide his meds in.

And get lots of chocolate  for yourself!  It helps soothe the nerves!

You lovea Ava  and you are doing this FOR her (not TO her)

Stay connected  and we look forward to your next post.

Hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

How did the surgery go and now with recovery?  Hope that Ava is doing well one week later.
