Welcome Lupe! I definitely fall into the category of no regrets. Shadow's recovery after surgery went remarkably well and even though he was still on Tramadol we could tell he felt better moving around without the pain that his leg had given him prior to his amputation. Sadly, he left us much sooner than we had hoped for. We know we gave him the chance to beat the crappy odds and would do it again for him.
As for the humans, wrapping our heads around amputation was difficult when the vet first told us it was an option. It took us less than a day to know in our hearts Shadow would be better off without the pain. We knew being a dog he'd figure out how to adapt. He didn't let us down. We are so proud of him.

Quick update...blood work came back (thyroid levels low but this has been the case for the past few years, kidney levels on high end of normal, but Dr. Z (vet doing the surgery) thinks this may be from the colitis). She has no interest in food today, but Dr. Z said with the Tramadol and all that she has been through not unexpected but to bribe her with anything...hasn't worked. Oh and she pooped!!!There was so much dancing on my part when that happened. Anyone driving by seeing my hobbling dog and me dancing in the rain must have thought I was nuts...oh well.
Just wanted to say thank you for all of your welcomes and warm wishes. Amazing how total strangers can total understand what we all are going through or have been through.
Big couple of days for us...my birthdaypalooza starts tomorrow
Take care all,

YAY for poops and birthdays!! That's some big time celebrating if you ask me!
Don't worry about the lack of food interest right now. It's not uncommon. I know you are worried and I would be too but I'm a worry wart at heart! I bet in no time, she'll be begging for some serious treats!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Pawesome news! Isn't it reassuring to get a vet's opinion? So glad you were able to.
Hoppy birthday-poopy-dance!!
