Thanks, everyone! I went ahead and ordered a Ruffwear harness , especially since it will be something we want long-term anyways. Between that and the other suggestions mentioned, we should be properly prepared.

I think you'll be very happy with it! Mitch is a quad but he's getting older and we've had a couple of close calls with him and stairs.
It also makes it much easier to help him in the truck and car.
It's really sturdy and seems quite comfy for them to wear.
