Post Amputation Recourance of Osteosarcoma

My 6 year old hsuky/rottie mix was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his left front leg in late March, 2009.  I made the decision to have the leg amputated due to his extreme pain.  I also decided to forego chemo as he hates shots and going to the vet.  He has recovered fully and was mobile almost immediately.  In the last week he has suffered a bout of diarrhea and then vomiting (usually after eating some grass) but I'm concerned that this may be the sign of something more ominous. He is still playful but hasn't eaten last 2 meals.   I hate to take him back to vet if it's not necessary, i.e. just a stomach bug.  He eats fish and sweetpotato food that is totally organic and has been on this for allergies for years.  Any help, suggestions, advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Deborah in Atlanta, if you would not like to bring your dog to the vet unless it is absolutely necessary, perhaps talk to the vet over the phone if he has any general idea of why this might be happening.  Besides the left front leg, did the vet take any other x-rays, e.g. chest,  before the surgery?

Some dogs' appetite do fluctuate lots even months after surgery.  They can all of a sudden lose interests in what used to be their favorite food; and become more and more finicky.  If you have been giving him fish and sweetpotato, try some other variations.  What kind of food he cannot take?

Apple pectin might be able to help his diarrhea.  Is he keeping himself hydrated?

Please keep us posted on how he is doing.
