My great dane baby boy just turned 4 yrs old on jan 3rd. He was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma 1 month ago and had immediate front leg amputation. He is doing very well. We have to decide if we are going to treat with chemo. Some things we have read tell us that chemo is not effective for chondrosarcoma? Any suggestions?

Hi there pongocone. We're sorry that you got the bad news, you are so young. Hopefully you are no longer in that awful pain anymore and are back to your old self!

You may want to check these Forum Search Results about chrondrosarcoma. There's a lot of good information and even an interview with a veterinary oncologist.

Have you seen an oncologist yet? This person would be the best one to give you input about whether or not chemo can help your pup fight cancer. Unfortunately the oncologist we interviewed in our video says that chemo is a "long shot" for chondro 🙁 This post tells more.

Whatever you decide, always try to remember that every day is a gift together. Make the most of it, and take us along on your adventures. We're here to help any way we can.

Welcome to the site.  I am unfamiliar with Chrondrosarcoma, but I thought that might be a question/topic that could be raised at the Webinar with the oncologist tonight?  If traditional chemo won't help, is there any data on Metronomic Protocol for this type of cancer?  Just a thought.

Glad to hear your baby is recovering well from the amp.  Good luck!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...
