Thank you all for your concern and support. All of you have walked this tough road and know how wonderful it is to have someone to hold your hand a little over the rough bits.
Today resulted in cautious optimism. The Vet wanted to have another look at Hamlet's toe and have a discussion beforeher biopsy and we left. It's been three weeks of antibiotics and bandage changes with no sign of healing, just a raw oozing mess. Today, there is healing tissue and the oozing has stopped. The Vet said he checked and the tissue underneath appeared to be a healthy red. He feels that since Hamlet is only five years old, it would be unusual for a cat her age to develop cancer. So she came home right away after a bandage change. We go back Friday afternoon for another checkup. I am cautiously optimistic that the healing will continue. I think Hamlet wants to resign her membership from the coneheads.
Again, thank you for your warm thoughts and I'll keep posting and let you know how we progress.
Regards, Rosemary
Yeah...this is called the roller coaster ride" part of the journey! Just keep the chocolate handy!
Signs of healing...that's a great sign!! And optimism is almost as good as chocolate!! With any little bumpin the road Happh Hannah had, I tried to adopt the attitude that...unless I fou d out differently...it was always the best case scenario going on in my head! And as you'll find so often here, things that scare the heck out of us are often no big deal at all!
Jill likes making her momma freak out every now and then with a hiccup or a hack! Such a jokester!
Keeping all paws crossed for you and Hamlet!!!
And yoj are definitely not alone! Nobody "gets it" like we do!!!
Love and hugs!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Well cool, let the healing continue! Definitely sounds pawsitive, I like the way your vet is asking you to come in for a follow-up, it's good to have a plan to monitor any changes. Good luck and keep us posted.

That sounds great!
Question - has your vet considered doing a fine needle aspirate on the toe? As I said, Jill's tumor also started as what we thought was an "infection" but when it wouldnt heal her vet did a needle aspirate and sent the fluid to the lab. That's when we knew it wasnt an infection and indeed cancer. It's a much easier, much less invasive way to check than a biopsy. It's done right in the office and the kitty barely feels the needle go in, no sedation needed or anything.
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Good thinking Erica, I think that's something to consider.

A needle aspirate sounds like a very good idea and will ask my Vet about it when we follow up tomorrow. I consider myself very fortunate in my veterinary service. They have always been very through and are priced reasonably. They are also open 24/7.
Thank you for the excellent suggestion. I'll update again tomorrow after our follow up visit.

Happy, cautious optimism. Friday's check up shows continued healing. I asked, as suggested for a needle aspiration and the Vet agreed it would be a good idea. Another check up and bandage change on Monday and the results most likely on Tuesday. Thanks to all for your kind concern.

Oh yay! I'm glad to hear things are good and your vet is working with you to make a plan. It's so nice to have a great vet isn't it?!
I hope you both have a relaxing day and a good visit on Monday. Keep us posted!

Thanks for all the good wishes. Hamlet had her bandage change yesterday and all is still looking very good. The healing is continuing and all but a very small spot is remaining. Another bandage change and we return Friday for what we hope is the last visit for a very long time. Hope to hear today today about the test results. Life for us is sure looking better after the last five weeks.
Regards, Rosemary
Yipee! Isn't it amazing what progress happens, before you even realize it happened? That's awesome news. Let us know what the test results say.

Life is good. The test results came back as normal tissue. A huge sigh of relief from me.
When we were at the Vet Monday for her bandage change, I forgot to check to make sure the tech applied a stirrup bandage. Hamlet is a Houdini when it comes to getting her bandages off, even with the cone on. So yesterday, we had to go back to have it reapplied. Happy news, it is healed well enough that no bandage is necessary. She will continue to wear her cone for another five days so her paw doesn't get groomed to death and the vet will do a last check to make sure all is well.
Yeah!!!
