Last night I noticed Sammy making more noise than usual. I started watching him, he was crying in pain. Today, he can't walk. I can't tell if it is the remaining front leg, or his back, or a combo. I am terrified! My husband is gone again as usual, so I had to put Sammy's harness on and drag him out to go potty. He stood for all of two seconds before he fell. He is crying now.
I finally got him back into the house and will be waiting at the clinic when it opens, I pray that they will see him, I don't have an appointment.
What could it be? What happened so fast? He was fine yesterday. He didn't run around like he normally does, but I didn't notice any thing too out of the ordinary. Please, if this sounds familiar, tell me what is going on.

I know you said you'd be waiting at the clinic when it opens, but do you have an emergency vet anywhere near you? They might not be familiar with Sammy or have his medical files, but they can do the most important thing that needs to be done right now – get him out of pain. You're not going to be able to think straight with Sammy crying, so the top priority is to make him comfortable or at least calm him down. You'll be in a much better position to work the problem once that's done.

I am so sorry to hear Sammy is in pain. I don't have any advice, but we will be thinking good thoughts for him. I hope it is something minor! Recently Abby couldnt walk on her remaining front leg, but it turned out to just be a problem with her toe. She is fine now. I hope you will have a similar easily fixed problem!!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. oh elizabeth, we are so scared for sammy and for you. we know what it's like to do it all yourself, and it just adds to the stress and fear. paws crossed that it's a pulled muscle or a 'something very easy to fix' type of thing. we are sending all of our 'ET juju' to our man sammy - feel the power of the juju and know that we are praying for good news.

Ok, I have tramadol left over so I gave him some last night, which caused him to pant and cry. I got a hold of my neighbor, he is coming up now to help me get him in the car. I will be at Dr. Pam's clinic when it opens. I hope so much that she is on duty today! Oh my gosh, I am scared. I put hot packs on him after talking with JD's mom this morning, she is meeting me at the clinic. I hate cancer!!! I pray along with all of our friends that it is just a minor fix.

We've got all of our fingers and paws crossed for you and Sammy here. I know exactly how this feels, it's gut wrenching. I"m hoping for the best, my thoughts and prayer are definitely with you today.

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

My sweet boy is flying high as a kite right now after a nifty pain relief shot, but the great news is he is going to be fine!!! Dr. Pam was there and was as awesome as always, she got us right in and 10 minutes later after the exam he was in x-ray.
NO CANCER ANYWHERE. That is never a for sure thing, unless you do an MRI but his lungs are clear, his spine is great, and his remaining front leg has great bone density.
He whimpered a bit when Dr. Pam was doing the exam, moving his head from side to side. So, based on the way he is walking, she figures the nerves or muscles are being pinched or tweaked in his neck area. He gets muscle relaxers and tramadol for the next several days, and must remain quiet and still for a bit with the hot packs on.
Oh my goodness, thank you everyone, your concern and your kindness were exactly what I needed to help after a sleepless night trying to comfort Sammy. JD's mom was there and I will always be grateful that she comes to be with us in crisis, she is a gem.
I will be trying to work out how to make it happen, but Dr. Pam thinks accupunture could be helpful. I think so too. I guess when you get to be almost 14 months without one of your legs, you back can get really S curvy.
The best of all news, he is now painfree and still cancer free, yipee! Thanks, many thanks, for your advice and good wishes.

Thank goodness Sammy let you know he was in pain, so you could fix it quickly! So many pups hide their pain for so long, and then we can't help them. I'm so happy that he is alright!! We're sending positive thoughts to you and (Stoner) Sammy!!!

great news, we are now sighing a big 'sigh of relief'. several months ago jim posted a list of acupuncturists i got from our acupuncture vet (these were graduates of the CSU school of needles). i'm thinking it's in the download blog, maybe you can find someone there that's in your geographic area. we SWEAR by our needles vet - she sees gayle every three weeks and it really helps with her immunity, stress on her spine, everything. tell sammy we'll keep sending our best juju to him, and he needs to take several medicinal naps and dream of his girl, gayle. hugs to you both!
