Today we are going to the speciality vet hospital to discuss surgery and chemo. We are so furtunate to live in an area that has these veterinary specialists available. I hope Sparky is a good candiate for amputation. He has always had at least 2 hours of walks a day,so he is fit and is at a perfect weight. And did I mention stubborn? this morning on our walk, every time I wanted to head home, he plunked his butt down, and refused to move until I agreed to walk the way he wanted to go. We were out for an hour. He hasn't limped at all for a week. The Metacam is working very well for him.
In any event, we will do what's best for him. Still waiting on the bone biopsy results to see if chemo will help.
Hey Chickeyboom (love that user name!),
Yeah, not everypawdy lives near specialists, you ARE lucky! Where is the clinic? We always like to hear about good experiences in our Vet Referrals Discussion Forum so if you have one there, let everypawdy know.
If Sparky is sitting down during walks, that's a sign that the pain is getting to him. It's one way we dawgs have of showing that we are hurtin', without showing, you know what I mean? I used to do that too before my amp.
Good luck today, let us know how it goes OK?

When Trouble was diagnosed her limp was intermittent also. I cancelled her first appointment because it went away, a few days later it was back and I was able to get her in that day. I believe her quick diagnosis and treatment contributed to the 27 1/2 months we had her and had she been younger, she would likely still be with us.
Sending lots of good wishes for you and Sparky.
