Mary,

if Blaze is in good spirits, go ahead and don't look back.  As has been said, you are doing this FOR HIM.  Here at home it was exactly the same: my husband didn't want to put Johnnie through surgery, because we had a bad experience with a hemangiosarcoma (Ximena only lasted 2 months).  With Johnnie it's been totally different.  He is 6-months post-op and doing fine.  Ok, sure he is younger, but because of months of limping and medication he did lose a lot of muscular mass before surgery.   My husband was only convinced of the surgery when the orthopedist told him that Johnnie could break his leg and then he would probably have to be put to sleep.  This was the turning point, and now my husband is also convinced that we did the right thing.  All the blessings to Blaze.

By the way, Monday is "Our Lady of Conception", December 8th.  In Medjugorge, the Virgin said that all pleas made in a church at noon would be granted.  May she guide Blaze through this period and give him plenty of time to enjoy his family as a tripawd.

hugs,

Daniela & Johnnie

Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet.   Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues.   Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle.  October 17:  started having seizures.  Taking fenobarbital for seizures.  April 18: started prednisone.

Mary, I'm so happy that all of you agreed on a decision after that heart-to-heart with Blaze. He's right, there comes a point when those pain meds get to be too much and instead of helping quality of life they hinder it. Your love, wisdom and strength as a pack will carry you through the days ahead.

As for posting photos, here's a discussion about how to add images. If you still have trouble let me know and I'll post them for you.

My dog, Diego, has just been diagnosed with cancer..  it has spread fast. The vet told us our options were amputation of the leg where the cancer has become really bad and is causing Diego a lot of pain... he is unable to sit or walk.. And the second option is to euthanize him... the problem is that the cancer has already spread... and even cutting of the leg is just delaying the eminent ... Any advice over the matter is appreciated!! Please do help me out here!!

Okay, DEEP BREATHS.....B R EE A T H E.....B R E A T H E....

You have come to the right place for support, information and understanding!!

I have to run, but will be back!

What does the vet mean, it has spread? Is he seeing mets in tbe lung xrays? Or does he just mean there are
probably microscopic cells somewhere?

REGARDLESS, please do research here and get a second opinion! So many vets aren't aware of the benefits of amputation a dd the chance it gives dogs and cats for GREAT EXTENDED QUALITY TIME WITHOUT PAIN!!

What pain meds is he on now? Tramadol and Gabapentin? The amputation removes the pain instantly! Sure, recovery pain hurts for about two weeks, but after that, Diego will feel great and do just fi ee without that bum leg!!

Also, we have a HELPLINE...1 844 TRIPAWDS .

Hang on! You'll get lots of support and good info here!!!

When you can, give us more details, etc

HUGS!!

I agree with Sally.  Get a second opinion or at least clarification of "spread".  You can then make a more informed decision.  We had Bandit's leg amputated in May and he began having mets in his lungs in August, but as of today he is still with us and a happy boy.  I do know that our vet would have suggested another path if at the time of diagnosis there were mets.  He told us that.  So ask lots of questions and you will know in your heart what is best for your furrbaby!  Deb and Bandit
