I recently took my dog out for a good run in the park. She did great, until she just went down and could not get back up. Her front leg was just way too weak. She tried, but it just shook and she could not do it.  I carried her most of the way back until I put her down and coaxed her to me.  She runs way easier than she walks.  But, it is her left front leg and clearly not the strongest for her.  Has anyone else experienced this with their dog?  I am worried that if we overdue it then something might happen to that good leg such as a break or bad sprain!

Welcome to Tripawds, your future posts will not have to wait for approval.

Tell us more about your pup- how long ago was the amputation? Why amputation?  How old is she, how big?

Answers to those questions will help our members respond to you.

But based on what you said she way overdid her activity- if her leg was shaking then she is not yet strong enough.  And yes- front leg tripawds do like to go faster, it helps them keep their balance, and it's easier to run than to hop.

If your girl (what's her name?) only recently had surgery then some rehab and strengthening is in order.  A rehab vet is a great place to start, and there are lots of Exercise ideas in our Gear Blog.  Also, Here is a Recent Blog Post by a Rehab Vet.
