My dog Rock had his front left leg amputated a little over a year ago and is very healthy! Late last year his vet gave us Dasuquin because he tends to turn his left back hip out for balance and it seems to cause him some pain and has changed his normal gait. We have been giving him the Dasuquin since but recently I've noticed that when he hops there is a clicking noise from his front leg like he has a achy joint. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced joint pain with their tripawds and what supplements I should be giving him. The vet said the Dasuquin might not work at all but I don't like the idea of giving him nothing at all! I just want him to be able to get around more comfortably. I've seen joint supplements for dogs online but don't know anything about them. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!!
Hi Rock and family! I'm glad to hear you're mostly doing well.
Dasuquin is a terrific supplement. Sorry it seems to have stopped working. At this point you may want get a referral to an orthopedic vet to find out what the clicking noise is. Instead of putting money toward a problem that isn't identified, it would be good to figure it out first and then come up with the right supplement.
Meanwhile we had the chance to test out a dog joint support called Cosequin which is another great choice with real science behind it. If you want to make sure Rock has some kind of joint support while you're waiting for answers it's worth a try.
Keep us posted OK? We need Rock out there hopping around for a long long time!
