RuffWear recommends hand washing with mild detergent then air dry.

When I wash ours I vacuum and use tape to get as much fur off as I can so it doesn't go down the drain.  Then I use ivory dish soap and a very soft brush if needed.  Then lots of rinsing and I hang them outside to dry.

I should add that I don't have the brush guard because they don't make them small enough crying

I would take the brush guard off and wash and dry separately.

Also the RuffWear says to secure fasteners before washing which doesn't make sense to me for hand washing.  It is much easier to clean the underside of the harness and the straps if they are not fastened.

Here are the complete instructions from their website:

Washing Instructions

  • Secure fasteners
  • Hand wash
  • Mild detergent
  • Air dry

Thanks Karen for posting those instructions! When Wyatt's very old Web Master harness gets really filthy, was have put it in a mesh lingerie bag in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with a few dog towels.

I do the same thing as the great Admin does. Except I don't have a mesh bag so I just use a pillow case. Since I live in the rainy pacific northwest and Cora wears her harness sometimes weeks at a time it can truly get nasty. It's been washed any number of times and holds up well.
