I did a search and couldn't come up with much except Shelby's little red wagon, which she looks super cute in, by the way!

We found this wagon: http://www.toys.....Id=4029904

and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it? I like that the sides flip up, that would be helpful in getting Dante in and out. That's really the biggest draw for me. I also like the dorky umbrella and think Dante would look pretty cute under it. The cooler is nice too, but there are a few other wagons that come with coolers. It'd be nice to have since hauling 3 dogs, a wagons and all the accompanying stuff for a day outdoors might be a bit much without some storage.

Any thoughts on it, good or bad, or other recommendations for wagons? We'd rather a wagon than a stroller for a few reasons, but mostly because the wagons has more uses on the off chance that Dante ends up not being a huge fan, or we don't use it for him often.

Did you see the selection of Strollers for Dogs Large and Small in the Tripawds Gear blog ?

The Little Tikes wagon looks like a sweet ride, though it appears to be out of stock at Toys R Us ... hint, hint ... winker

buy.com doesn't ship to Canada unfortunately!

We did see the strollers and we'll definitely keep them in mind if the wagon route doesn't work, or we decide we also want a stroller.

Hi Munko's folks,

A couple of things to consider-

I got the stroller for Maggie for two reasons- she was contained and could not jump out (turned out not to be a problem, she LOVED riding in it), and the doors on either end opened so she could get out by herself, and in with just a little help.  I didn't want to have to pick her up each time she needed in or out.

Sometimes when Shelby is riding in her wagon her mom has to hang onto her collar so she doesn't jump out.

Mag was pretty small, but our stroller is rated for 50#, I don't know how big Munko is going to get.

A wagon might be more usefull for hauling all your stuff- maybe you need a couple and make a wagon train- your other quad dogs could haul it big-grin.

I have to agree with Maggie...get something made for a dog - or Dante will jump out.  I have the same kind of stroller Maggie had (and strangely - we have the same identical toy box!)

I bought Comet a red wagon with wooden side rails many, many years ago.  It totally freaked her out.  It, too gathers cob webs in the garage!  At least with the stroller I could keep her in it!  Like Maggie's mom said, it has an opening in the front and back and is total mesh so it doesn't get hot.  I bought it when Comet had her knee surgery and she rode in it just fine.

But there was that one time that I didn't have the front opening latched very well and with one quick stop, Comet came rolling out it on the street!!!  I felt so bad but couldn't help from laughing!

Hmm. Thanks for the replies guys, definitely something to consider.

One of the big reasons we're considering a wagon more strongly is because it probably won't be too long before we're pushing a stroller with a human child in it. We're hoping to start trying soon, so possibly by next summer.  I can't push two strollers - but I can push a stroller and pull a wagon if I hooked it up to me. We want him to get used to whatever it is we choose before then.  I guess it couldn't hurt to see what he does with a wagon, and if he doesn't use it or won't stay in, we've got lots of kids in our life, and our own soon, so it would get used whether by Dante or not.

I'll look into the strollers, too though. I guess if it came down to it the dogs would just have to wait for walks until there were two of us home.

I just thought I would update:

We bought Dante the wagon last night. My sister asked for a wagon for my niece and nephew for their birthdays in a few weeks, so I thought we'd give it a go with Dante, and then pass it on to the kids if it didn't work.

We haven't taken it out of the house yet, but the goober LOVES it! He lays right down on the bed and lets hubby haul him all over the house.

I had prepared to give him time to adjust to it before even trying to take him for a ride. Well, he hopped into it the second it was put together, hopped in and out, we put toys in it, he hopped in and out to get it and has been all over it since we got it. As soon as hubby put a bed on it, he laid down and that was that, we had to make him get out when hubby had enough hauling him around. Doesn't freak him out in the least. Does freak our beagle out, though, lol.

It's got seat belts that I think we will attach a short tether too, just to prevent him from jumping if he does try and we're going to try it out tomorrow.

I'll post pics once we get him out and about, in it!

Please post pictures.  I've been thinking about getting Trouble a wagon.  I've looked at a couple and the one with the door is great for getiting into and out of, but she couldn't lay down because it has a seat on each end.  And I'm not sure about one she has to hop into.  Maybe she could get into it from the bed?  Just thinking out loud - don't mind me.

That's great!  Pics would be fun! Would love see him!

Shanna,

What's going on with Trouble on this not sleeping at night you mentioned?

Comet got us up at 230am last night acting a little freaky.  I thought she had just gotten hot or had to go potty but when I got up, she was trying to tell me something with baby barks.  I realized the TV was still on and an infomercial had a product with beeping sounds.  Beeping sounds make her think of the house alarm. (when the beeps start, the door opens and someone comes in but we were all in bed) I changed the channel on the TV but she wouldn't get back in her bed and wanted on our bed.  So, she slept between us last night.

But I was reading that geriatric dogs may have sleeping issues and get up in the middle of night whining and being needy for no reason.  Sometimes they are confused.  It so hard to think of our babies as geriatric but they are.

The one we bought we got for exactly the reasons you stated. The seats lay flat, and the side lifts up so he can hop in and out much easier.

He slept in his wagon for a good part of the night, last night.

We took him out today to the dog park. He's always excited there so he didn't ride in it too much, but it did come in handy a few times when he needed a break. I can see it being very useful if we go somewhere with less excitement going on. I did find that having a puffy bed seemed to throw him off balance a bit and made him a bit shaky if he was sitting, so I think we're going to just buy a bad or flat bed, just enough to line the bottom and see if that helps. The bed also made him sit much higher so the sides weren't offering much protection as far as keeping him in.

One more to show you how it looks when the seats are folded and the side is up. Dante does need to be lying down for the side to come up and over him when he's actually in the wagon and wanting to come out, although we've just been hoisting him out quickly.

Thank you so much - that is EXACTLY what I had in mind.  Guess I'll have to expand my search now that I know there IS one out there.  I think Trouble would really enjoy a ride around the block in the early evening as it begins to cool a bit from the day's heat.

Comet - It isn't just Trouble it's Bob too!  We had the intermittent air conditioner thing going on for about 4 days, and he was awake more than he was asleep during that time trying to figure out how to fix it.  If he gets up, she thinks it's time for me to get up and the cycle begins.  If Bob falls asleep and forgets to put the television on 'sleep', Trouble will wake me up to turn it off.  She went through an itchy spell for a couple of days last week, so she was up in the middle of the night licking and scratching and I was up giving her Benedryl.  Oh, and she has some weird 'full moon' thing that she has had since the day we brought her home.  If the moon is full, even though there are no windows in the bedroom, she will be up. I get pretty hard to be around when I'm sleep deprived, so it hasn't been a great time at our house.

We're starting to return to normal or whatever our normal is.  A/C is working, Bob is sleeping, Trouble is sleeping - although because I get up between 4 & 4:30 when I'm working, and I'm the one who feeds them, she normally gets me up about 4 even when I'm off.  Fortunately, I can sleep just about anywhere/anytime so I feed, take them out for a potty run, and come right in and go back to sleep.

Dr F did talk with me about senior dementia - the disorientaiton you described, whining for no apparent reason.  Some of them will stand in one place and just stare off into space.  Trouble was doing the whining with her first episode of not moving, so Dr F thought that may be part of it. She hasn't done it since, so I think she was just struggling with not being able to get around. It does break my heart to think what aging does to them.  And people are so willing to just write them off when they get old, it just isn't fair.

Those are great wagon shots!  WOOHOO Dante!  Ride 'em cowboy!!   I'm totally surprised at how much he enjoys that!  Comet has a fit in her enclosed mesh stroller.

Oh good Shanna - I'm glad it's Bob and the AC's fault!  I think the heat gets to them, too.  With age, it gets to me also.  Did you see my $10 Rimidyl offer?  Just go to rimadyl.com and fill out the paperwork and you'll get $10 to use and $5 checks after the first one.

Comet, if you knew Dante, it would make sense!

He LOVES car rides and tries to get into any vehicle he passes, he stops excitedly to watch bikes and roller blades go by, and tries to get on hubby's old skateboard. This boy KNOWS wheels are the way to go!
