Logan is beautiful! Glad all of you are hanging in there. Tripawds has great suggestions on beds. I just wanted to add that our Lucy has a Dr Foster's and Smith's ortho bed. She got it about a year before her amp and we were so glad she had it after surgery! Lucy is 72lbs so not nearly as big as Logan but a large dog nonetheless. Unfortunately most places don't rush deliver the beds.
I know you must be so excited he's coming home soon!! Keep us posted.
Lucy's mom, Mary
Lucy's front right leg was amputated 12/19/11. Thankfully there was no tumor, but her nerves were found to be degenerative. Life as a tripawd is Lucy's new adventure!!
Hi everyone, just another Logan update on his pressure sore. For such a little sore it sure is causing us grief. He's still bandaged up from it from his shoulder to his toes. They have a mepilex dressing with silver on it and it's getting there...long slow process. While this is going on, he has to wear a sleeve over the bandage to keep it dry - if it gets wet we have to remove it and take him back to the vet to be re-dressed. With this going on, Logan doesn't really want to move around too much. I'm going to try making an elbow pad using the plans posted above, I'm going to try velcro and a memory foam pillow that we have and don't like so I'm going to cut it up and see what I come up with. I don't want it to reoccur once this heals, that's for sure, and I'm sure he doesn't either.
Has anyone else had this issue? I don't see too many posts about it.
we had a devil of a time with gayle's. she ended up going to the vet daily to have hydrotherapy, and have it packed with a mixture of antibiotic ointment and table sugar (yes sugar). it helped the skin 'granulate'. once the infection was down, our vet 'sewed' the two sides together, to get it to heal shut. since we were just starting chemo and i think the stitches were still in at her amp site, we ended up not putting her under for this. i held her, and she was so brave, just a few 'winces' and the elbow was stitched up. if you want gayle's elbow pad, i still have it, and can send it to you - PM me you address and i'll send it. good luck, this is just so difficult to heal up and we remember how awful it was for our girl.
charon & spirit gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
That would be wonderful, I would be honored to have Gayle's elbow pad. Did you have trouble with the sore reoccurring after it healed? Our vet treated Logan's with a sugar bandage as well, I hadn't heard of it until then. We're supposed to start chemo this week as long as the pressure sore is well on its way to being healed. Fingers are crossed.
