I posted a few weeks ago asking for advice on ramps, steps etc. Bought a ramp at Petsmart which Chandler is more or less afraid of. Yesterday, I started looking at steps online and it occurred to me that I had a perfect solution right under my nose. We have 3 sets of mounting steps at the barn to get onto horses. One of them is light maybe 15 lbs. It has 2 steps and goes right up against the rubber coated running boards on the hubby's truck. I am going to glue some carpet on each step and we are ready to go. Not real sure how much the plastic steps were originally, but I am thinking a lot less than the $200 I was seeing online. We tried them yesterday and they worked perfectly. Well, except for the fact that Chandler got pretty ticked that he was not actually going anywhere. We will keep them in truck bed for Daryl to use also. He can jump in on his own, but I would rather he used steps. BTW , we do haul them in the truck cab, not the bed in case anyone is wondering. Daryl actually has a seat that a friend built for him. I call it his throne. It will have to come out to fit both dog's beds into truck's back seat area. Just thought I would share the idea in case anyone else has an extra set of horse mounting steps sitting around. They can serve a dual purpose. Lori, TY & Gang

We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

How creative ! That's a great idea and it works!!! And I love that Daryl has a 'throne' ... because of course since he goes with your hubby all over!!! The king that he is!!! 🙂

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Yes, most dogs, and animals in general, are afraid of ramps. It's called "The Visual Cliff," and basically what it means is that some species of animals have such poor depth perception that a look down to the ground from a ramp is terrifying. So for many dogs, ramps are just a bad idea. Your stairs seem terrific!

Here you go!! please excuse the fact that they look dirty. I did wash them. Our riding arena has a sand floor that gets everywhere and stains everything it touches. I have only 1 pair of shoes I ever wear in there. I found pretty much the same steps online as low as $49.00. I then went to our local Ollies Bargain Outlet and bought 2 pieces of self stick carpet for $1.49 each, cut them to fit and Chan Man can now get his hefty bulk into the vehicle!! They also make them with 3 steps, we have one, but it is quite bulky and heavy. Took my $100 ramp back today! Lori, TY & Gang
