I just adopted a three-legged Australian Shepherd ~three weeks ago. He is completely fine going up stairs... except the ones inside my apartment building. I live on a first floor and there is one flight of stairs to get to my apartment. At first, he would let me carry him and if I had time I would put turkey on the steps and that (and patience) usually worked. However, I left for two days and ever since I've been back he barks and growls when I try to carry him. Yesterday I waited over 30 minutes for him to come up and went through almost an entire packet of turkey. This morning I ended up having to pull him by the leash up the stairs - but I am afraid this might backfire (he growled and barked when I pulled him from his collar once). I got him a ramp but it won't get here until tomorrow and I am going crazy. I could use any advice. He has giardia and going to the bathroom multiple times a day so this is becoming an issue. I am also hoping once the giardia passes he might let me carry him? Maybe his stomach is uncomfortable?

This could definitely turn him off getting anywhere near those stairs.

Do the steps have an open back? Many dogs, especially Tripawds, are adverse to climbing open back stairs. If the stair treads are not carpeted, you'll definitely want to add some traction to the steps...
