Just a quick question, how does your rear dog are doing when they want to run really fast? I watch Novak runs normally, he seem ok, but when he want to go really really fast OMG, its a mix of funny and OMG he will fall. I know that that leg has to go twice has fast because the rythm is without one leg, but wow, today, I was amaze, or shock...lololol Today during our walk, I brought Vega and when he's with a pal, he runs faster to go after the other dog. I could see today, that he had really improved, very steady, and after the walk, not much problem has before. I dont know if physio is beginning to help, Im doing just a bit every day, but it seem that he's more fit...how long does it usually take to see a difference?
Any video of a dog running really fast out there?

Meg runs just as fast as she did on four legs -- https://youtu.b.....o0wx88K0gM, this video doesn't really show her close up or going her fastest, but its the only one I have of her running so far!
It probably took Meg a three weeks - a month to really start running fast without looking like she would stack at any given moment

I know tankman posted some...Kathi just posted one kf her beloved Murphy at the beach. The computer geeks will have to find them.
Although my Happy Hannah was a rear legger, she was not exactly athletic. She was more of a looper...she looped, never really had any desire to run full speed. Clearly your Novak is an Olympian Athlete!

Give that swwet boy a hug for me! You two have overcome so much and it's uplifting to see you both happy! 🙂

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Kylie is a rear tripawd and hop-walks pretty fast but I can't see I have actually seen her run really really fast since her surgery. Hmmm might have to take her off leash somewhere this weekend and throw the ball and see how she does! I promise to post video! 😉

There are a couple of videos of Murphy running on his YouTube channel, Murphy the Three Legged Dog. He wasn't a speed demon on land, but in the water??? Gus never could out swim him.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Yes it does look a bit like Wyatt, but even more, faster, its like his rear leg can't go fast enough to the pace of the front..Don't know if im clear? But glad I saw that video, I see some of the things that Novak do as well, it reassure me. Like when he run toward the stick and then goes into a down position when he retrieve it. But the gaith of a german shepard is longer than a belgian shepard, so it look different a bit. I will try to do a video and show you.

And Murph is an unbelievable swimmer, I am stunned at how fast he out swims Gus, the poor guy didn't have the slightest change to get the ball 🐾🏊🏼💨💨💨💨💨💨💨🎱

He runs like a bat out of hell I got dizzy just looking at his fenomenal speed 🐾😈🚀💨💨💨💨💨💨💨💨
After watching these videos, I will from now on describe Eurydice's "mad hops" as snail hops 💨💨💨💨🐌
Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

The first time we watched 3-legged Milo chase a bunny, we practically fell over laughing. But 4-legged Milo wasn't much faster or more graceful. He was much more like happy, hoppy, goofy Eurydice. (said with love and admiration for the beautiful cow!)

To follow up on my post, I took some videos to show you exactly what is going on.
At normal running rate, he's ok, but when he want to really go fast, his leg seem to have problem keeping up.
You can see really good in that last video, the leg seem to do circles and is very low and not in a good angle compere to "normal" hopping running pace.
We are at 3 months post op and with minimal exercise done to help his core muscle. I hope that with physio, that muscle with build and he will be able to have more strenght and be able to run better.

I think you are right on point about his need for core strengthening. Physical therapy and rehab exercises would do him a world of good. I know it made a big difference for Murphy.

I love watching your big fluffy dogs run!
Yes, your instincts are exactly what I'm thinking. Instead of so much off-leash running, replace that time you spend with daily core-strengthening exercises. It doesn't need to be long, just 3-5 minutes twice a day is enough. Now's the time before his weakness causes an injury.
