I have a greyhound who had her right hind leg amputated due to a neurological condition. She is doing well but we are trying to manage pressure sores on her hips, despite providing her with soft bedding. Our vet suggested we get creative in terms of “clothing”. As a greyhound, she has no muscle/extra skin and our vet said her skin on her hips is fragile. She is 7-8 years old and came from China in May. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for posting here Kim! As I mentioned, I hope our Greyhound members and others will have some ideas. Meanwhile I’m wondering, how is her fur right now? Has it grown back? I’m thinking she might be less inclined to pressure sores once her fur is in? Also, have you tried any boxer shorts on her?

I have no expertise with dogs and pressure sores but wanted to mention on the rehab webinar the vet said that during recovery it's important to reposition the pet often so it doesn't get sores. I think he also mentioned a good bed, such as a Big Barker Bed , was really important. These beds are orthopedic beds designed to protect joints from pressure sores. I understand they are quite expensive. If you are lucky maybe someone has one they don't need anymore.
I also recall that Teresa had an elbow pad made for her great dane Eurydice.

Thank you all for your quick posts and suggestions. I will look into the bed and also boxer shorts (didn’t think of that one). Cindi changes positions all the time so that does not seem to be an issue as she will lay on either hip. And yes, the fur is slowly growing back. We go this morning for a dressing change. Surely appreciate this supportive community!!
