Hi all,
Gracie is a 10 year old greyhound that is 10 months post amputation left front leg for osteosarcoma. Last few months she has been limping on the remaining left back leg, it has become more consistent and she has trouble squatting when urinating or pooping. We took her to the vet a month ago and was told it might be arthritis or just redistribution of weight on that one leg. I’m worried this is something more or will be progressively worse until she can not walk. We are going to take her back to the vet but has anybody else had this type of problem that can give some advice.

Hi Nadine and your sweet Greyt Gracie.
You have a "mature" Greyhound who has been a tripawd for almost a year (congratulations!), so arthrit is certainly a possibility. AND, if that's the case, there are a lot of treatments you can check into that will help tremendously. Check into Adequan injections, Rimadyl or Galliprant, acupunctnoe? Assis Loop, laser therapy etc. Did the Vet prescribe any pain meds fot now?
The most important thing you can do however, is get an appointment with a CERTIFIED REHABILITATIVE SPECIALIST for evaluation. The Tripawds Foundation will pay for the first visit! I can tell you from first hand experience, their input is invaluable! They are quite tuned into identifying issues and the cause that are overlooked by Vets.
Also try lots of gentle massage up and down her spine, her neck and shoulders. Placing a warm towel out of the dryer over her back and hips can be soothing also.
If you have trouble finding a Rehab Specialist in your area, let us know. Jerry has contacts everywhere!!!

Nadine please get Gracie assesses by a pain management specialist and/or a rehab therapist. Find someone trained in recognizing pain signals so she can find relief. This is probably something very treatable but it sounds like you need a more expert eye to help her.

Thanks Sally, she has been on gabapentin and rimadyl since surgery, I did increase both per our Vet. Some of the problem is when I take her out she just wants to run around without regard to her condition. We are keeping her strictly on the leash for awhile to see if that helps. I will look into the rehab specialist.

Thanks Jerry! I will look for a pain management person, we have several speciality Vet hospitals around here because we live near Philadelphia.

Good job keeping her activity regulated! That is sooo important.
Yes you are in a greyt area for rehabilitation therapy and pain specialists. Please let us know who you find and how it goes OK? We are sending lots of pawsitivity and hope that she will start feeling good again soon.
