My 10 y.o. female 67 lb (pre-amputation) greyhound has been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Back leg was amputated after it broke, which led to the diagnosis. Lungs clear as of 5 weeks ago.

Currently I am:

Morning: Vitamin C and E

Evening: 2 Capsules Artimex, 2 Capsules Butyrate

I have switched her food over to a low carb chicken-based wet food with some small amounts of her kibble.

Any additional suggestions? I checked with my local vet, and he stated he did not have concerns about this protocol, but was not very familiar with it.

Thanks

Hi Kevin, welcome. Your future posts won't need approval so post away.

Sorry to hear about your Grey. What's her name? A fracture is the most horrible way to find out about osteosarcoma, I'm so sorry you had to go through that, but glad she's doing better.

I'm not sure if you've seen but our Tripawds Nutrition blog has many diet-related posts that can guide you toward questions to bring up with a holistic vet who is more familiar with cancer nutrition. Also, I highly recommend getting a copy of The Dog Cancer Survival Guide if you haven't already. It's indispensable.

Here are some posts to get you started:

Does a Low Carb Pet Cancer Diet Make a Difference?

Artemisinin FAQs for Dog and Cat Cancer

The Basics of a Good Anti-Cancer Diet

and here are details about diets of dogs who fought osteosarcoma.

I hope this helps. Stay tuned for more feedback from others.

Hi Kevin,

My beautiful greyhound Sessy lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 1/2/17 and is doing great!!!! After amputation we did six rounds of chemo.  Today was her 3 month after chemo chest X-ray...........yeah.....still no spread of cancer and clear lungs.

Glad you found this amazing group!!!  The information and support in this group is great!!!!!

As mentioned above please access all the links above for complete information.  As for us.....on top of a good diet (except for treats) I give Sessy k9 immunity, turmeric, and Fu Zheng support formula.  The last was added by Sessy's physical therapy doctor....it comes from a mushroom and is in small bottle with dropper.

Please post pictures of your girl so we can see her beautiful self!!!  Sessy is my third retired racing greyhound.  We live in Calif, but Sessy was off of an Oklahoma racetrack.  I will always have a greyhound in my life!!!!!!!

Gayle - mom of beautiful greyhound Sessy.  Sessy diagnosed with osteosarcoma on 12/26/16, left back leg amputated on 1/2/17.  Feline siblings Mooshe, Tinkerdude, Odie and Bean
