I have a 15 year old lab who is 6 months post op with a back leg amputation. He has also been going through rounds of chemo and every is good on that end.
he was doing well, up on his leg, gaining muscle and happy.
but this last week, he has started to refuse to get up on his back leg and just lays around. It is rather sudden, I am not sure what to do. Any ideas or tips would be great.
Oh poor pup. Sounds like he overdid it, poor guy. Rest usually does the trick. Is he on any nsaid medication? Or other pain relief?
I would let him rest a lot the next day and if he's not better call your vet. Gentle massage (very gentle) might also indicate where the pain is coming from. Watch for a look when you gently massage his neck and shoulder area, maybe low back.
How is his appetite? Pooping? Urinating?
First of all, a "senior" thrivIng six months on three...CONGRATULATIONS 👏
Ditto Jerry. Often we see tweaked muscle strain as it takes very little to pull something on a tripawd. So check with the Vet and see if you can get an anti inflammatory and maybe a pain med. The other thing you'll want a Vet to check out f he doesn't seem to improve would be a cruciate knee injury. Â
So we'll look for your reply as far as Jerry's questions etc and then mayve we can help you further..Â
HugsÂ
