Hello, i'm new to the forum so i apologize if this question has been asked before. I adopted a tripawd (Ray) a couple months ago. He's about 6 months now and his left hind leg was amputated when he was 4 months . He was hit by a car and messed up his knee pretty  bad and fractured his femur so it was the only option for the rescue group. He's getting better at getting around everyday but I notice that he walks like a frog a lot. He kind of kicks his leg to the side to scoot himself around. When we walk fast he can hop around but only for a minute. I was wondering if this is normal and if he's going to be hold himself in a better stance. It worries me since he's still growing. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Wath our video interview with Cal. Animal Rehab for information about the adjusted gait of tripawds, as well as lots oh helpful exercise and stretching tips.

Denali's mom, calls it a bunny hop. Wyatt had it too, it just takes time and exercise but ray will regain his strength.

Be sure to keep us posted, and consider starting a blog to share photos and regular updates!

Hi Scitti24 and welcome to tripawds. Sorry for jumping in on your chat earlier. That was rude of me. So Ray is a young boy. I bet he just needs to strengthen that remaining rear leg. A pup of Ray's age can be a bit weak and clumsy even on 4 legs. I suppose there's a chance the other knee might have sustained some damage as well when he was hit by the car but that's probably not the case. He'll master the hop/run thing in not time. Kudos to you for adopting sweet Ray. FYI, I didn't start a blog thing and really wished I would have. I look forward to reading all about Ray and his journeys. smile
