Hi everyone! Marshall is 6 days post amp on his front leg. He is flicking his back legs when he walks as if something is bothering him. Also, when he's laying down I notice his back legs twitching. Any ideas why?

Love his avatar picture by the way!

I saw on your other post that you did take him to the vet last night. That's good...always follow your gut in that regard.

It could just be all the nerves and muscles readjusting, firing off signals to a leg that's not there anymore and getting things all confused on where to send them. Of course, I'm no vet.

Before he gets up, maybe gry giving him a real good massage to loosen up all his muscles. So etimes it could be as simple as a leg "falling to sleep" causing that reaction. His miscles have a lot of adjusting to do and are having to do double duty.

Jerry will give you a link, but there's a video on here for giving a dog a massage.

You're doing great and so is Marshall!! It realy does get better! REALY!

Boxi g up some chocolate for you? Hapy Hannah included so e treats flr Marshall and a Kong filled with peanut butter!.......WAIT.......OOPS!......"HAPPY HANNNNNNNAH.....you weren't supposed to lick out all the peanut utter!!!!" Okay, an empty Kong. Sorry avout that!

Love and hugs!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

I'm not a vet but I think your gut instinct is right; something is bothering him. Six days is not a long time, he shouldn't be going for any walks right now other than to his potty spot. If you're doing anything longer it's likely too much and he's sore. Cut back on the activity and see if that helps. In the meantime here is that massage info that Sally referenced.

Hmmm.  Yeah, restrict activity.  Massage!  I'd sit next to Jackson and run/rub/lightly "pinch" my fingers together over his spine.  Up and down.  And right about near his pelvis, his skin would twitch.  I think that spot on him was tight or tender.  So I worked it for a little bit.  I'd also stretch out his last rear leg, aiming to extend range of motion.  Try that.  If not...is there a pool near you?  Maybe your boy needs to stretch it out in a warm, safe place?

Keep us posted!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Barret seemed to almost "pull a muscle" a few days after surgery. They may want to go for walks, but their muscles need more time to readjust to their new walking style. It was several weeks before Barret developed the proper "tripawd hop" everyone refers to.

Every once in  awhile I notice him almost limping on a back leg, that is usually my cue that we went too far or he was too active that day and its time to rest and massage.

Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog
