Okay - so we braved the car for the first time since the disaster of getting him in the car after his surgery. In the morning he did great - surprised me! got in just fine, got out... okay. This afternoon he must have been tired because we ended up crashing into the back seat upon entry and he really crashed into the garage floor upon exiting.
So, we need a solution... A ramp was suggested and I've been looking... but... I'm hoping you all have one that you love and I'd like to know why. I want a cheap, light, sturdy ramp (yeah, right) that will support an 80 lb tripawd. I drive a subaru outback - so a normal passenger car height is what I would use most - but if it were flexible enough to help him into our tacoma truck, both back seat and in the bed, well, that would be perfect. Okay, maybe I need two.
What have you tried? hated? loved?
Thanks! Samdog's mom (and his front leg)
Samdog was a 10 yr old Golden and retired SAR dog. We found a bone mass on 8/17/12, needle biopsy showed sarcoma 8/22/12, amputation on 8/23/12, post-amp biopsy confirmed osteosarcoma on 8/28/12. Sadly, we found lung mets on 11/27/12 and my Spirit Sam earned his wings on 12/2/12.
We didn't know where we were headed and we don't regret a single step along our path. It all happened too fast, but he left a legacy of love that we will always cherish. Good bye my heart.

Hi SamDog's Mom!! I replied on your blog, but I'm not sure if my reply showed up<img class="spSmiley" title="what-ever" onclick="spjEdInsertSmiley('smiley13.gif', 'what-ever', 'https://tripawds.com/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/', '');" src="/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/smiley13.gif" alt="what-ever" />. So here is the link to the ramp we bought for Linda. It is a front door ramp (I have a Hyundai Santa Fe) and it fits perfectly there. However, I use it on the back door. It's a little tight there, but it does fit. We've had the ramp for about 3 months or so. Both Linda & Bernie are about 55 - 60 lbs, so just slightly smaller than Sam. But I think the ramp provides a weight rating.

I bought the half step pet ramp (petstep.com). It is very sturdy and there is excellent traction . It was great for the bed but not so great for the car (not quite long enough and a touch to wide for trying to get Magnum into the back seat. But, we made do.).
There is a pet step ramp (longer one, with extension). If it is sturdy when extended it would be very good.

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
