My Golden Retriever, "Jack" is now 8 months post amputation of his front right limb due to Osteosacoma. Jack is 4 and doing GREAT. He loves life, runs, swims, chases squirrels and ducks, eats well, plays with his older brother "Montana" and is generally a really super happy dog.

Jack is on a daily very low does of Cytoxan (8mg) and has been for months after having finished with traditional chemo. Our vet has prescribed this "metronomic chemo" as a way to give Jack the best chance possible for a longer life span.

Recently, Jack has had some loose stools and our vet suggested adding some sweet potatoe to his diet. I am hesitant to do this as we are on a no grain and carb/sugar restricted diet. We are following Dr. Dressler's Anti Cancer diet. For those of you who may not have read his book, I highly suggest that you do so as it is a wonderful reference guide. Jack is also on daily Apocaps (4 pills with each meal) as well as Onco Support.

Does anyone have any info on adding sweet potatoes to Jack's diet to get more fiber to help with the occasional loose stools?

Thanks- MIKE

Hello Mike and welcome to the forums, your future posts will not have to wait for approval.

It's wonderful to hear how well Jack has done!

We are big fans here of Dr. Dressler!  It's always helpful to get feedback to share with our community here.

Here are a couple of links on natural cures for loose stools. Lots of info in our Nutrition Blog on diets.

Sweet potatoes are better than potatoes for sure, but can be difficult with thyroid malfunction, for example (another interesting and frustrating area for the canine-nutrition-interested...). I use cooked carrots (or make carrot soup)for loose stool
