I have been hiding the mushroom and joint supplements in tuna fish as that is what I had in the pantry - but am a bit concerned as to the high levels of mercury and I read that a little bit as a treat is ok but not 1/4 cup a day.  Does anyone have any ideas of another strong smelling food that will be good for Boats, my chocolate lab with osteosarcoma?

Alao want to add to use tweezers when handling the pills.  Suff the pill k to whatever "carrier" you are using.  Do t let the scent get on your hands and hide jn the food pocket, cover....again without touching the pill.

I made pockets in balls of stinky liverwurst and that work, as did balls of cream cheese. Toss a couple without the pill and then tossed the one with the pill.

Good luck

I can get the pills down him, no problem.  It's the powders that are posing the challenge - they need to be mixed with something or he avoids them like the plague.

Not sure the amount of powder you need to get down Boats, but they do make "empty capsules".  Maybe you could load those up with the powder.  Just a thought.

Ohhh yeah definitely try getting some blank capsules. I've seen them at pharmacies, super easy to get.

Rice cooked in chicken or beef broth works well for us with ground up or powdered supplements. It sticks really well and doesn't seem to affect most of the flavor.

My dog, Anouk, is highly food motivated, so I usually get the pill and a handful of similar-sized treats and toss them in the air one at a time, beginning with a treat or two. The pill gets tossed up at random and then I encourage her to catch another treat very quickly to keep her attention on the next incoming one.

So far she has either not caught on, or is an optimist and okay with one bad treat mixed in with the three or four good ones.

Anouk: 7 year old pitbull/lab mix with osteoscarcoma, left foreleg amputee
Mona: 30 year old purebred human along for the ride, zero amputations (so far)

Mona, thank you for your feedback.
