Hi all
Grandpa Sarge keeps eating all my Oregano plants he completely demolishes them, which is getting rather annoying as I like to use it in cooking! I have so far found out that it isn't poison but that is about it. does anyone have any idea why he would be eating this and if in large enough quantities could it be harmfull. Sarge has always nibbled at grass and various other plants and has never had any issues but this fixation with Oregano it a bit wierd even for him.
Hmmmmm. I'm clueless. That's funny how they get fixated on stuff! I've always grass eaters and my vet said to NOT let them eat grass (way easier said than done).
Maybe someone with knowledge will help you out!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
A culinary dog. Aren't dogs funny? My new puppy is fixated on socks. Even though I put them up, whenever he is out of his crate he is on the prowl for socks. He sniffs the inside of people's shoes too, I think looking for socks. LOL. I found this interesting tidbit on Oregano oil and dogs. Maybe he is trying to be his own vet.
If you are growing them inside in a pot, put them up on the counter. If you are growing them outside, might want to put up a fence until the obsession ends, otherwise I think you can forget any Italian cooking this year. HA!
Cadence Faye: Born 10/30/04, stepped into our hearts 12/23/2004. Rear leg tumor found 7/24/11 by mom and dad, Xray on 7/25/11, Osteosarcoma suspected 7/26/11, amputation 7/29/11, Carboplatin started 8/23. Met free so far!
mmmmmm interesting - Sarge has always had sensitive skin and Oregano is good for irritated skin as well as just about everything else - I guess atleast he is eating a healthy herb!
I think I have pretty much finished trying to grow it now he has killed every plant I have had so far and goes to great lengths to get to any plant that is out of his reach.
I cant' imagine it would make a pup sick, but too much might cause some runny poo I would think. The smell is probably as attractive to them as it is to us!
