Increased Food Allergies and Allergic Reactions post amputation?

Hello,

My sister's dog just had his leg amputated. However, ever since the surgery, he's become increasingly allergic to foods. Has any other tripawd owner experienced this as well? Could it be the antibiotics and medications prescribed post-amputation have weakened his immune system?

Is there a way for dogs to "detox" from all the post -surgery medications?

Hello! So this issue sounds to me like it's less about being allergic to foods and might have something to do with the flea/tick problem she's been battling as well. Fleas and ticks love compromised immune systems from what I understand, and antibiotics can definitely weaken the body. Plus, since he's a rescue and started out with a tough life, he probably didn't get the best nutrition either and his body has paid the price. Thankfully there's lots you can do for him.

What is your sister feeding him that makes her think he's allergic? Is he on any probiotics or immune boosting supplements? Besides feeding a high quality food, supplementation can make a huge difference. Our Wyatt Ray started out in a similar situation when we adopted him and the probiotics and quality food helped him improve dramatically in about 3-6 months.

Your sister's dog is very fortunate to have such a caring auntie advocating for him! What's his name?
