My dogs have always gotten lots of snacks during the day & then one meal at dinnertime (amounts adjusted to account for all the snacks!) but I'm wondering if Kermit should have 2 smaller meals a day now that he's being treated for cancer.
One concern is that having him hungry during the day makes him a LOT easier to pill because he'll swallow anything I toss at him! But if it's better for him to have his dinner divided I can try it.
Any evidence that 2 smaller meals would benefit him?
Breaking up meals to twice a day is now a pretty standard recommendation by many vets. Not only does doing so allow you dog a chance to burn off calories throughout the day but reduces the risk of bloat. Our friends at Dog Food Advisor have good info about this topic.

Well I suppose I already knew that, but Kermit's big meal (before his current diet, which is just completely different anyway) was only about 2 1/2-3 cups of kibble, which I don't think seems like a lot for an 85 lb dog, and they eat early- around 5 pm, so I never really worried about the once a day. I was more concerned that he have one meal a day that made him feel full.
Maybe I was just projecting.... 
But I guess there's really no downside to going to twice a day. Thanks. 
Ah! I have a downside to twice a day, kinda: he'll wake you up for a tasty bfast! Jackson has always loved his meals, so that meant our days of sleeping in late ended when he joined us. Is that bad? Nah! So there you go: meals twice a day will mean double the wags, double the wiggles, double the licks, and a smaller chance of bloat. 
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
