Ok, me again. Still struggling getting anything I feel is nutritious into Arty. Still good with cheese, liver sausage, some chicken some days, some canned dog food occasionally, some (but not much) prescription diet food. Any ideas? Really worry about salt levels and not really getting anything any decent into him and we are 3 weeks in. A dog cannot live on cheese and liver sausage alone. I do keep telling him this!
Hmm. Remind me, is he on any other pain meds besides Gabapentin? You probably already know this but some pain meds can cause a weak appetite. What does your vet say about his reluctance to eat?
It's my understanding that prescription diets are overall pretty bland. So if you don't have a real chow hound, it may be hard to get him interested in that food once he's had a taste of the good stuff. Have you tried any other conventional dog foods for him? Or mixing up tasty human foods with the kibble and using it as a topper?

Seeing vet tomorrow. I will try some kibble. Historically he hasnt been a fan of dry food. He’s on Onsior (nsaid) at moment. Have reduced his paracetamol because he’s due for chemo all being well with bloods, so my guess is that will also be another nightmare eating. Just worry he’s getting a lot of salt and fat! I am trying different things but not sure if he is now waiting for me to give him different stuff so holds out! Desperately want him to put a bit of weight on.
Can't remember, has Arty been on a Vet prescribed appetite stimulant uet?
Also, just saw this on Riot's thread. Try Spam, yes Spam!! And try the good old standby dry Milk Bone treats. Try feeding them SEPARATELY first and see if he goes for them individually rather than mixed in with kibble. Just put it in two different plates and walk away.
I know you're concerned about salt and nutrition, but for now whatever works.

Thank you. It’s so frustrating. He ate relatively ok yesterday.?today he wants junk food again! I’ve used one of the appetite stimulants I have. Think he’s turning into a junk food lover!😬
nightmare. On the upside he’s definitely more perky and getting the hang of things.
Can you try giving the bowl of junk food with just a little good stuff mixed in- maybe wet it so the junk food flavor gets on the good stuff. Once he goes for that a couple times then slowly start increasing good stuff and decreasing bad stuff.
Sort of like when you change foods and introduce the new stuff slowly.
I know how frustrating it is when a dog won't eat- in my case it was a kidney issue. One thing I learned is that I was broadcasting my feelings even before I tried to get Maggie to eat. I was so anxious and frustrated that she could read it in me. Once when I was making their breakfast she came hopping into the kitchen, took one look at me and just kept going out into the back yard!

Yeah I’ll try that. He seems to have one day on junk one on reasonably good. He just changed each day constantly. Now thinking he’s yanking my chain a bit little monkey 🐒.
