Cathartic, yes. But painful nonetheless. Kinda like how I must sew up Jerry's football immediately every time Wyatt starts pulling the stuffing out! Bittersweet, indeed.

I lost my FIRST EVER dog Tristan, in June, 2000.  I still miss him even though I now have three dogs. When I think of him it is with a smile, sometimes with a sad smile, but a smile none the less.  Loving someone means you grieve when they leave you. The more you love them, the bigger the hole.  It does get easier but even after years I saw Tristan's collar and cried.  I'm sorry but this is the price you pay for love.  But isn't it still worth it!

Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.

We agree completely. Recently my Mom unpacked a bunch of photos of me that she put in storage before we hit the road. She always thought she would bawl like a baby when she saw them again. She did, but behind those tears were smiles too, thinking of all the good times we had together.
