I think that Shooter's brave strong heart is giving out. He became very lethargic last night and has not improved this morning. We are headed to the vet in just a few minutes. Just wanted to thank everyone on here for all the support and give everyone puppy kisses and hugs.
Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.
Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.
Luanne and Shooter, we love you, we really, really do.
Shooter's special brave heart will NEVER give out, it will beat with every beat of your heart. Your hearts are one.
Love, Sally

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you. We can now move this post to the forum named "Panicing Pawrents". I think we need one of those!
Yesterday at noon Shooter was doing just fine, but two hours later he could hardly walk and even holding his head up was a challenge. He did eat his dinner, but it took awhile as he would have to stop and rest in between bites. This morning we had to carry him off the bed and outside. He did pee, but was very wobbly and laid down immediately after so had to carry him back in. He is not a big snuggler, but just wanted Gene or I next to him at all times and just wanted to be petted.
Finally got hold of the vet about 8am and she got him right in. He has a very bad infection and is also anemic so he got a double whammy. He had been doing so good after taking the lomustine last week I had assumed we were past the side effect part. This morning we found out we are just entering that part and need to keep a very close eye on him for the next week. She wants someone to stay home with him today so he didn't have to stay with the vet and be uncomfortable. Luckily my job is flexible that way. Anyway, he received a penicillin shot and a B12 shot and is on 3 weeks worth of Cephalexin.
Sorry for the panic mode and I promise to not overreact again until I am absolutely sure of whatever is going on.
Thanks for being here and not laughing too hard at me.

Erica and Sally - thanks for letting me laugh with you. See, we do need a forum for over reactive pawrents!! Between smiles and Jill's hugs we are all feeling better. Shooter is sleeping still and, yes, I check his breathing every five minutes.

Great News! Well, not happy that he feels so bad, but certainly much better than we feared!!!
In the spirit of Erica's confession above, I will admit to panicking sometimes. I once rushed our first dog, Spanky, to the vet because I came home from work and he jumped and barked and then rolled over for his mostest-favoritest belly rubs and... I found two lumps on his stomach. I rushed him to the vet in tears only to find that he was, ahem, sexually aroused. That never entered my mind b/c he had been fixed! The vet explained that even after surgery, they continue to have some testosterone in their system for a little while. I was totally mortified.

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Hopefully Shooter feels better soon!
So, is it confession time? I overreact to EVERYTHING. Once I took Barret to the Emergency Vet because he was panting but it wasn't hot and he wasn't exerting himself. No other symptoms, temp was fine... Of course they weren't able to find anything and by that night he was fine. Another time I rushed Sara in (to the emergency vet, again) because she was dragging a back leg. By the time we got there she was fine and they think she may have slept on it funny and had the 'pins and needles'. Why does anything out of the norm happen after 7pm or on Sunday?? I need a frequent flyer account for PETS hospital.
Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog
