Jewels' family made the difficult decision to release her on Friday, 3.5 months after her tripawd journey started
Read the blog post Farewell my Princess, written by Jewels' Mom.
I left a post in the blog, but wanted to add my condolences here. It is not easy to say good-bye, even when you know the time is right. I hope the good memories help to soothe the pain of loss, and that the strength you gained during this cancer journey helps you to cope with the end of your earthly time together.
Karen
There are tears as I read your blog.
I'm so very, very sorry that you had to let Jewels go. The pain of losing something so special and dear is almost unbearable. You made the right decision and gave her a gift that only us humans can do for our furbabies.
Please take comfort in knowing she is out of pain. Please let her peaceful ending be a guide for your heart when you find yourself in the darkest of places. Peaceful farewells are gifts too.
Please know we are here for you if you need us for support; even just to talk and share your Jewels stories.
Many hugs coming your way.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Adding my condolences here. Jewels truly was a princess and my heart goes out to her family.

TATE ~ Forever in our hearts.
Karen, thank you for sharing this here....
Oh Jewels, this is so sad, our hearts go out to you and your family. As I said on your blog, we never ever have enough time together do we? When cancer unfairly cuts it short, it's even more heartbreaking. I'm so sorry.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful thoughts and condolences!
I am feeling better today.
I have only been a member of this awesome community for a short time and was immediately embraced with so much love, support and strength. I wanted to let you all know that you are helping me through this journey in more ways than you know. It is so comforting to meet many who have great love and affection for their pets like I do. This is a very special community and I just wanted to express my gratitude for all that you have done!
Jewels was a gorgeous Lab-Shep mix that found us at the pet rescue when she was just 3 months old. Born June 2000; Diagnosed OSA on June 1, 2011; L-front Amputation September 12, 2011; Crossed Rainbow Bridge December 30, 2011. My "baby dog" will always be in my heart. Now she is running fast and free on all four legs after the rabbits and squirrels! Jewels was loved by her crazy-busy mom, even-keeled dad, pesky twin human brothers and monkeydog sister Aspen. Read about Jewels' Tripawd Journey here.
I am so so sorry for your loss. I read your blog and couldn't hold back my tears. My heart goes out to you and your family - we all know too well how painful and difficult this is to lose your beloved princess. What a beautiful princess she is too. You can be sure that she will always be in your heart forever. My deepest condolences.
Sending lots of golden hugs to you....
Kami & Angel Mackenzie
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
I cried reading your blog. It was a wonderful tribute to Jewels. I know she was greeted by many tripawd warriors at the bridge. It's hard giving that last gift and setting them free. That's when our pain starts and their pain ends. Hang in there.
Jenna & Spirit Chili Dawg
Diagnosed with OSA: 5/2/2011 Ampuversary: 5/11/2011 OSA returned in hip: 8/26/2011
Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
No time is ever long enough. I'm so very sorry.
Laura and Angel Tai
Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I believe everyone on this site sympathizes because they have been in your shoes or know that we inevitably will be in the future. When you go through this with a furchild, you sign up for one hell of a battle. The amazing thing about this site is the total compassion and support which turns the battle into a full out war. You are no longer fighting it alone - you have an entire tripawd army with you every step. That is priceless.
You have been strong for Jewels, now allow yourself to grieve with no regrets. Just as animals can "sense" the good or bad in a person (we have ALL seen it happen - when our most gentle animal who loves all humans shuns someone they meet and you just KNOW that they sense something we cannot), Jewels could sense the goodness and love in your heart. She knows how hard you fought for her and she loves you for it.
God bless you and your family in this most difficult time.
Lisa
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Jewels sounds like a dog we would have been proud to call friend. May your love and memories bring you some comfort but it is a long journey with no short-cuts. It has been a little over 3 months since we lost Zip and the tears still flow but there is some relief in knowing she has 4 on the floor again and is in no pain. Our tears flow with yours.
We are very sorry for your loss. There is never enough time. Sending Dalmatian Hugs and healing thoughts.
Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.
