I have an early day tomorrow and will spend the afternoon checking out Sammy and Titan. My heart is so heavy, I am so sorry about your (and our) loss of Gayle. We are sending so much love your way, we hope you can feel our prayers and healing thoughts.
She was the first one in my prayers this morning and I have thought of you almost non-stop today. Peace be with you friend.

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
We have been teary all day about Gayle. And here you are sharing again Charon. You are an angel.
I pride myself on keeping up with dog health issues, but did not realize how widespread this can be. And inside the mouth is probably the last place most people would think to check. Chaz and Pegz will be completely annoyed with me very shortly.
Consider it done. How very thoughtful of you to still be helping others when you are still hurting from your loss. You amaze me, Charon.

Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
Charon:
We are so sorry to hear of your loss of Gayle; you and Gayle have been a staunch supporters of Rusty. It is really scary how this terrible disease comes at us from all angles. We will honor Gayle by checking his mouth tonight; Dr. Macy always examines his mouth during our monthly follow-up visits.
Chuck & Rusty
Rusty is a Labradoodle who was diagnosed with level 3 Fibrosarcoma on January 16th, 2010 and had his left hind leg amputated on January 25th, 2010 five days before his 18 month birthday. Please see Rusty's blog @rusty.tripawds.com. He is putting up one heck of a fight against this terrible disease.
As you may remember Charon, we lost a girl to oral melanoma too (aslo remember that melanoma will show up on their toes, too). You are so right to remind us all to be vigilant. Thank you. Even people who have been through it need to keep it in the front of our minds, which can be difficult when we are dealing with all the other challenges that come with having a tripawd.
Tonight, as I wear my favorite wine colored socks, and look at the card I still have up from my surgery, we'll think of you and Gayle, the wonderful warrior princess, and we will check our poochies from top to bottom.
You are selfless to worry about all of us during this time. Thank you for that.

Charon,
When you first posted about Gayle's mouth surgeries and oral melanoma, I started checking my pups literally inside and out. I found a skin melanoma on Rio not long after that -- in a place that I probably wouldn't have been looking if not for your instruction. Early detection is key in our battle against this dreadful beast, cancer, and knowledge is power. Thank you so much for taking the time during your grief to educate and advocate. You are a wonder.
Hugs to you from me and the Woo!

Thank you for honouring Gayle in this way - what a beautiful offering. This is such an important check to do. Lylee (what a good girl!) and Happy (no comment) have been checked today and will be done every month from now on.
Our hearts are with you Charon through all this.
Sending much love and biggest hugs

I would have never thought to do this, but will remind my daughter to check Sosa. His breath has been uncharacteristically bad for the last several months, but we didn't think to worry about mouth cancer. However, I know our vet always checks the inside of their mouths (and Sosa was just there) so that makes me feel a little better.
I am so very sorry about Gayle. Having just lost Sammy nine days ago, I empathize with your loss.
Even as somewhat of a newbie to this site, it is very clear to me how well loved both you and Gayle are to other Tripawd members. I pray you find some consolation in the knowlege that your leadership and kindness have helped so many others. And, I hope a healing spirit comes back to you from all those brave dogs who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I think they must know of your kindness.

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
Done! I checked both Shamus and Rufus this morning. Thank you for thinking of the rest of us. I told the boys about Gayle as I was searching around their mouths and said she is playing with Fergus.
I hope you are healing and the good memories help you through the Holidays.
Take care,
Tara
Thanks for this reminder! This will be added to the spot checks that I have started doing on Spencer!!
Jac and Angel Spencer. Spencer was 5.25 years old. He fought a grade 3 fibrosarcoma, started on his shoulder. Left front leg amputated in August 2011. 15 weeks of chemo finished 12/22/11 (mytox and adria). Lung mets found on x-rays 12/28/11. Started carboplatin 1/6/12. Went to Heaven on 2/27/12. I miss him like crazy every day. See his blog here: http://spencer.tripawds.com/
Gayle as always a strong and brave girl, and now even as she gains her wings, she is reaching out to help us all learn about a cancer to be aware of.
Thank you Gayle and Charon for putting others first and teaching us all something we need to know.
RIP sweet Gayle. Run free at Rainbow Bridge. Please tell Trouble I love her.
