Today was another tough day. I went to the vet and picked up Dasha's ashes. I promised her that I would do that and I did. I went home and put them on the mantel so she could watch over us. Dasha loved laying by the fireplace so we figured thats where she will stay.

You did right by your girl, she is proud. That is a very tough thing to do.
My pawrents remember the day they received my ashes. They cried a lot of tears, and held the box close for a very long time. For many days my ashes sat out on my bed, surrounded by my favorite stuffed toys. It was comforting for them.
After a while though, I finally showed them that the essence of who I am, was not my physical body or my cremains, but my energy and my spirit that will always be by their side no matter what.
May Dasha's spirit keep your hearts warm and happy forever.

I remember that day very well -- I sobbed, yet again when Jack's ashes were home. Was oddly comforting though. "He" sits on a shelf in the living room watching over the activity.... though his spirit remains in my heart and the many happy memories are still very present in my head..... I do admit though, every night, I kiss "him" good night.... as I did when he was with me physically. May be odd but truly, I don't care.... he will always be my boy and I have become resigned to the fact that I will always miss him.
It sounds like Dasha's ashes are in the perfect location. You followed through on the promises you gave her and you will keep her spirit and all she taught you forever.

I found it very comforting to have Wrigley back home when I brought her ashes home. I felt there was some closure.
We have a "collection" of boxes in our armoir ( 3 dogs/2 cats) . It is nice to know we are being "watched over" by so many wonderful souls.
May you find peace in the days to come and remember the wonderful times you had with Dasha.

It is comforting having her back home. I will always miss her and I too every night kiss her just like I always did. I believe she is "watching over us" and is still protecting us. I feel closure having the ashes back. Dasha was everything to us and her spirit will live on. She taught Bailey so well. He is changing into the alpha dog. He is more protective than ever before and is doing some of the things that Dasha did.

Closure is a good hing, but only this chapter closes really. Dasha will always be with you in spirit now, wherever you are, whatever you do ... and you don't even have to pick up any poop!
