This week has been so hard, we have lost far too many of our Tripawd heroes all at once. I know many of you grieving pawrents are reeling, and those who are lucky enough to still have your cancer warriors with you are finding it difficult to see so much sadness. The loss of every Tripawd hero touches us all.
In honor of our Tripawd Angels, I want to share this poem with you, because it really speaks to what I know; our angel dogs are never, ever far from home.
If you have any favorite poems about coping with loss that you'd like to share, please feel free to do so here.
Many, many hugs to all of our Tripawd families who are grieving. This is for you.
I'm Still Here (author unknown)
Friend, please don't mourn for me
I'm still here, though you don't see.
I'm right by your side each night and day
and within your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm always near
I'm everything you feel, see or hear.
My spirit is free, but I'll never depart
as long as you keep me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight,
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach,
I'm the warm moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around
and the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond,
The clear cool water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'll see in the spring
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
I'm the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
and you'll see that the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
you can talk to me through the Lord above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves on the trees,
and you'll feel my presence in the soft summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep
and the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me, friend, I'm everyplace!

Thanks for posting exactly how we feel. It's so, so sad to know the pain that so many in our tripawd family are feeling. They are true heroes in every sense of the word. Today, when I was leaving the vet's office with Lily,a woman called to me from across the parking lot. She said how brave we both were--this from a total stranger. I was very moved, and I think of that now because we are all brave as we face this disease. It takes those that we love so very much, and that's horrible, but it also makes everyday with our babies so precious, memories that are so treasured, and love that will never be forgotten.
May those who are grieving know that you are in our thoughts and prayers,
Joan and Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.

Very beautiful. I have read this before but I love it all the same and it is a great poem. I hope you don't mind if I share one that I found and saved to my computer awhile back.
That's a beautiful poem Michelle, thanks.
