Glad to hear Jane Doeggie is doing well!
Yep, like Jackie said - I wouldn't put much into the growling. That's a protective mechanism for vulnerable dogs. And without a leg and being loopy, she is vulnerable.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Thank you all for being so helpful and supportive.
Jane Doe slept most of the day, she's eaten, taken her meds and has mastered a very well balanced squat to pee. She walks vey well and I am keeping her outside time brief so she can sniff the air, watch the birds a bit and do her business then come in and rest. She is awesome and she doesn't want the westie around either. She has a very deep rumbling growl that sounds like it comes from a really big dog. She has a very BIG attitude.
My daughter said that she is just saying..."Do you have any idea what I've been through the last week? Leave me alone!"

She is resting comfortably with her head (in cone) on a stuffed zebra.
That sounds JUST like Gerry, haha!
Paws crossed that when she's further along in her healing that she and the terriers will warm up to each other - since there's a good chance their going to be related, if/when your daughter's family adopts her.
Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.
Videos and pics of Gerry's pawesomeness can be found at: http://gerry.tripawds.com
Oooo, puppy breath. Nice. Walking around and pooping - sounds like she's already a rockstar at this three-legged thing!
And your daughter sounds very wise!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
You're an angel for taking this pup in and getting her the care she needed. Sounds like things are going well for her recovery, but usually its a few days before stuff starts getting a little hairy. Hopefully you'll have smooth sailing, and that little miss Jane will be mixing it up with the terrors (I mean terriers) in no time!

Only had to get up once during the night. 2am and it was because the westie wanted out, right now!!! She is a diabetic so she has her own issues. Decided after the "terrors" did their business that I'd see if Jane Doe wanted out, so she did her little walk and star gazing then came back in and crashed. Up again at 6:30, took Jane Doe out then fed and watered and gave meds, then out again. Terrors are giving me the skunk eye. She is now napping. So far so good!
Hi janedoe, I've been away for a couple of days and just now caught up on your story. WOW! Bless you for taking this pup in, I know she will be forever grateful for your care. I hope you get to keep her though!
I saw that you aren't sure how to add photos, here's a post about "adding images to your post" that will help. Let me know if you have any questions.
How is she eating? Is she hungry at all? Sounds like the recovery is going great. What a spunky gal!

She is eating really well and often... I have no idea how many days she went without food. It makes me so angry when I think of the hundreds of cars that must have driven by her. She was emaciated, anemic, flea covered, stickers everywhere, a shattered leg, hookworms, you name it she had it.
She is a happy girl and although she is still very thin she is beginning to fill out. Bless all of you for the support. I did post a picture of her (taken before surgery) on the Tripawds Facebook Page . She's a cutie pie.
She is beautiful. It is very disappointing to think that so many people would drive past and not want to "get involved" to help her. But thank God that you were driving past and not only stopped and helped her but made the decision to take her into your home is wonderful. She is one very lucky dog.
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
OMD!! That scruffy face is ridiculously adorable!
It is sickening to think of how she got into that position in the first place and then how many people must have just passed her by...unimaginable to all of us here, I think. In the end, though, thank goodness it was you who picked her up! Many people might have picked her up and thought the kindest thing was to take her to the shelter or the vet to be put down...which definitely wasn't the right decision for her! It's really amazing of you to just pick her up and then immediately jump into major surgery and all of the cost and aftercare that goes with it.
It's great to hear that she's doing this well so far! Good girl, little Jane Doe!
