I'm thinking it might be the carprofen.
Scary. Considering the adverse affect of NSAIDs on some dogs, you may want to change or stop his meds. Rimadyl tore jerry up inside after a few days of use, but he was on Metacam for nearly two years with no problems.
Good luck, please keep us posted and give Sid a good belly rub for us – maybe that will help!

Ugh. Now he has horrible, horrible gas and diarrhoea, and isn't eating properly. I'm thinking it might be the carprofen. 🙁
Oh no!
I'd call the vet for sure.
Typically when this has happened at our house, we give Pepcid (over the counter but recommended by the vet). If it lasted for for than a day, the vet has said to stop all meds, including supplements and feed white rice until it passes.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Thanks - yes, I knew about the adverse affects of NSAIDs, but Sid is the first who's really reacted badly to them (if it's that). I had one on Metacam for a couple of years, simply because Rimadyl didn't do anything for him, and it did upset his stomach a bit, but we managed it with acid reducers on prescription. It's always a balancing act, isn't it?
I didn't give Sid his dose today and he's eaten his dinner (cleaned the bowl) and is resting, completely relaxed and happy. Coincidence? Dunno, but I'll be calling in before I give him any more, and I'd prefer to switch him to something else, I think.
My Kona is a rear osteo amp. In late Sept. she tweaked her remaining back leg, then she , because of trying to compensate, injured her back, not sure if it's a disc problem, or pinched nerves. Anyway, they put her on prednosone and tramadol and in a very short period of time, she lost all use of her back end. Now, we're off the drugs, although STILL going through withdrawl, but she's getting chiropractic care three times a week and IMPROVING ! She now can control her bowel and urine, and seems to be gaining feeling and small functions, we're hoping that she'll regain her leg usage. Anyway, long story short, yes and million times yes, the chiropractic is helping her.
Also, we've ordered her a rehab cart that not only gives her mobility, but also for rehab...really kind of simulates the water therapy.

For what it's worth, one of our favorite vet authors Nancy Kay just included a post about Canine arthritis: Symptoms and treatment options for arthritis in dogs in her blog.

Ask your vet about stem cell.
I ended going to my orthopedic vet because I was investigating stem cell for Comet (it was her neck not arthritis). Well, my regular vet sent me to her ortho here in Las Vegas because he knew about stem cell. Well guess what? My ortho vet is from the UK!
