Oh, poor sweet puppy. What is your pup's name?
Since she is so young, she should adapt well. Of course the surgery is very scary. We'll be thinking good thoughts for you tomorrow. Once she gets through the recovery period, and is off the meds and gets her staples out, you should see your girl's personality come back.
Keep us posted on how she's doing! Come here with questions or if you just need some support,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Welcome... So sorry to hear about your puppy, but you have two things in your favor: your dog is young, and will likely bounce back much quicker than an older dog; and, it's not cancer! That being said, it's still a scary proposition, and we understand completely how frightening this is to face.
But you're not alone. Each of us here has stood in your shoes, and having been there, we also know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Try to get lots of rest before she comes home, because you're gonna need it. You are going to be on an emotional roller coaster for the next couple of weeks, and being sleep deprived only adds to the drama.
If you have questions, need to decompress, whatever, we are here... Good luck, and we'll be thinking about you. Let us know how your puppy does in surgery, and please, please post pictures!!!

OH NO!
Your poor, poor baby!
I know this is heart-wrenching to say the least but just know that since she is so young - she'll adapt so well. And she won't even remember having a leg in time which will make it easier. I had a three legged dog for 12 years. Her leg was deformed. She never missed a beat! And she never knew she had to hop opposed to walking!
So with that being said, I know your heart is hurting but honestly - it's going to be okay.
As Abby's mom said, please keep us posted on her surgery and let us know how she is.
What is her name by the way?
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
thank you all so much your comments mean alot oh and her name is Kayla. I was just talking to the vet and she is getting spoilt rotten by everyone at the vet clinic.
the surgery is scheduled for first thing tomorrow morning will let you all know how she is then.
Thank you
Yo Kayla and pawrents, never fear! Puppies who lose a leg do great after they recuperate!
I was a kid when I lost my leg too, and now I'm a crazy Tripawd running wild and having a good time doing it.
We're glad you're here. Hope you don't mind we moved your post to this "Beyond Cancer" topic but that's where dog like us come to play. Can't wait to hear more about you.

Our old dog is pinning really badly for his sweet little Kayla, she has been at the vets for two nights so far, i wish i could tell him she will be home he is so sad anything I can do to ease his distress?? he has also been through major surgery to remove a massive tumor from his abdomen two weeks ago.
Sorry to hear about Kayla! It is very hard to watch your pup go through that but they are far more resilient than we are! She won't even miss that leg after a couple of weeks! I have a foster dog who is a 1 year pit bull - his right front leg has either a congenital defect or it was broken and healed poorly. He will eventually have to undergo an amputation as well. It is really what's best, especially at such a young age they can bounce back. We have the option of letting L.L. (Lucky Lefty) keep his leg, but he'd eventually get terrible arthritis and it could easily break again. You are definitely doing the best thing for your pup! Stay strong for both your pups - my Dixie just had her right back leg amputated and was very aware of my emotional state - when I was worried, she acted stressed, and when I was happy, I could tell she felt at ease. Give your old dog lots of attention and treats to keep his mind off of things.
Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.
He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.
Videos and pics of Gerry's pawesomeness can be found at: http://gerry.tripawds.com
Hooray for Kayla making it through surgery okay! That's the first BIG step down! Rest up before she gets home! You might that sleep is in short supply the first week or so after she gets home.
Keep us posted!
