Just got back from dropping Grayson off at the hospital. I was a big girl and didn't cry. Maybe I don't have any tears left to cry because I cried them all out yesterday and today. I have literally made myself sick over this. I put on my biggest and bravest face for him and held him and stroked his face until the vet told me I had to leave. Lol. Grayson is mad at me for taking him back to that scary place. He wouldn't even look at me. Small dog, huge attitude (just like his mommy). Can't say I blame him for being mad at me. In his eyes I'm sure nothing good ever comes from being at the vets. I mean really, the first time he was there those mean people cut his winkie offaw-shucks Anyway, today has sucked but we can only go up from here. I haven't lost my sense of humor though. When we were on the way to the hospital I realized that he would have nothing with him that smelled like me so I took my shirt off while I was driving (I had a jacket to put on) so he would have something. I was very proud of my ingenuity until the vet told me that they really didn't want anything in the cage with him. What a kill joy.

So I am doing alright, for now anyway. We will see what tomorrow holds. I imagine tomorrow will suck too since the vet doesn't want Grayson to have any visitors until Thursday at the earliest. My house is way too quiet and my arms are empty with my baby gone. And my bed is going to seem so much bigger for the time being. It'll all be ok, right?

Yes it WILL be OK, I promise!

I think that's pretty cute of you to take off your shirt for him. Just goes to show you that Tripawds pawrents will give the shirt off their backs for their pups. Fear not though; he'll be so doped up from pain meds he won't notice that your shirt isn't there. But when you see him again, it will be such a joyous reunion, you will have tears in your eyes for being so hoppy to see him, safe and sound and on his way to feeling good again.

I think it's a good idea not to see him until Thursday. As hard as it is, he will need to rest up for his life ahead. It's a good thing, really! You'll see how quickly he bounces back from this, and be amazed.

Hang in there, we're cheering you on!

Yep, tripawd pawrents will do anything for their pups. That's for sure!  I agree with Jerry, don't worry about Grayson. He won't be stressing, he will be enjoying all the drugs. The reunion afterwards is pretty special.

It's going to be fine.  Try and keep yourself busy so that you have less time to think!

Thinking of you...totally understanding how you feel...sending positive thoughts to you and precious Grayson!

Joan and Lily

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.

IT WILL BE OKAY!!!! I had to laugh about the shirt thing :-) Grayson will be fine sure the first couple weeks might be rough but once he has recovered he will be that super amazing boy you love so much just like before!!! Have you looked at some of the pictures on here of dogs just after the surgery it might help you when you first see him afterwards as that can be a bit of a shock. Keep yourself busy , do all those jobs that you have been meaning to do for ages (we all have them) it wont keep you from worrying but it will help the time go a bit faster. Good luck and big hugs

I decided not to visit Maggie after surgery. It was tough to be without her, but I didn't think it would be a good idea for her to see me, then have me leave again. Let the pros take care of him and get him all ready for you.
The first two weeks or so can be tough, but anyone who can take a shirt off and put a jacket on while driving will find a way to deal!!!

Keep us posted on Grayson's progress.

Whether or not you visit afterward seems to be a personal choice.  Our vet didn't even suggest the idea, and I'm glad he didn't.  I think it would have been very hard for me to see her and then leave, and I know it would have been hard for her to see me go.  Staying away was the best choice for us, but everyone is different.

I was told that I would be able to see Lupe the first night.  Vet explained she would be doped up on pain meds and needed rest.  They were also concerned that seeing me would be too much for her and didn't want her moving around (she was a wiggle butt).  I ended up taking her home the next day because she was doing very well and they wanted her to start adjusting to her new normal.  I did get to have a "video chat" with the nurse and Lupe that first night.  Basically, they put a webcam just outside her kennel and left it there for 10 minutes.  She was completely out of it and barely moved, but there were some nose twitches and even a little tail wag.  It was very tough seeing her like that so I'm glad it wasn't in person.

And will it be allright?  Yes, it will.  Give yourself and Grayson time to adjust, be patient and remember its okay to lose it just do that in the other room.

Keep us posted on his progress!
