Hello and welcome to Tripawds, your future posts will not require moderation.
In this website you have found a very knowledgeable and supportive group of people.
Tell us more about your girl- what's her name, why the amputation? How is she doing since the surgery?
You might check out Jerry's Required Reading List or down load the e-book Three Legs and a Spare. Both have lots of information from this site on what to expect with amputation and recovery.
My little pug Maggie was a left rear amp. She got along fine for almost 4 years before I lost her to a second cancer. There are not a lot of small dogs here, but there are a few. Please let me know if you have any specific questions I can help you with.
As far as support groups- well there is all of us here! We do have some members in So Cal- hopefully they will chime in. If not you can try posting in the Tripawd Parties forum and see who responds.
And if you are the traveling type the Nor Cal chapter of Tripawds is having a big Meet up in Mill Vally on April 14th. All are welcome!

Karen,
Thank you for the above information.
Last Friday Feb 10th my dog "Baby" was hit by a truck. Luckily it only hit her back leg. She had surgery on Saturday morning. Her recovery is going very well. She went in for her follow-up appointment yesterday. They removed her drainage tubs and looked over her stitches. Other than her being knocked out from [removed by moderator] she is doing a lot better that what I expected.
That's funny you mentioned about coming up to the NoCal. I'm actually driving up to Livermore this Friday. But, I won't have baby with me.
Thank you again
-Monica
Monica, I'm so sorry to hear about Baby. What a lucky girl to survive an ordeal like that. Whew! Did the docs really give her Vicodin though? That's unusual.
Well when is the next time you'll be in NorCal? Livermore is Tripawds NorCal HQ!
We're glad you're here. Please do share more about Baby and let us know how she's doing. Anytime you want to put a call out for other members near you, just announce it in the "Tripawd Parties" topic here, I know you'll find some great folks to hang out with!

Hey Monica,
I'm the one in Livermore- Jerry and Admin Guy (aka ma and pa tripawd, or Rene and Jim) are hanging in the desert somewhere right now.
The quad pugs and I will be home all weekend- and I am off Friday this week too. You can send me a private message (PM) if you want to hook up sometime and we can exchange information. Not as glam as Rene and Jim, but the pugs are usually good for a laugh!
Karen and the pugapalooza
p.s.- sorry about your topic title. When I first saw it it said dod so I guessed dad Jerry must have changed it to dog!
Hi Monica, I'm in San Diego. Although, unfortunately we lost our tripawd to cancer last month. We have a new pup now. We often go to Fiesta Island. Do you ever take Baby there?
You'll find lots of support here online. The people on this site were total life savers for us for the past 16 months dealing with Abby's surgery, recovery, cancer, and her loss. I don't think you'll find a more supportive group of folks on the internet anywhere!
It's good that Baby is not dealing with cancer. Once she fully recovers from the surgery, you will likely see her doing all the same things she did before.
It's awesome to be a tripawd pawrent. Welcome to the club,
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Welcome to tripawds!
Oh, what a horrible, horrible tragedy! How frightening to have your baby hit by a truck! I hope the two of you recover emotionally along with her physically recovering!
Good wishes to you!
By the way, I removed the "vicoden" word from your post. Since it read like the vet prescribed it. I wouldn't want anyone to do a google or internal search and only read that one post and assume it's okay to give your dog vicoden.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Oh I'm jealous we'll miss the meet up if you two do connect!
I was pretty sure it wasn't vicoden you were talking about but ya never know. Thanks for keeping an eye on that Comet.
