Hi,
I'm new to this forum. I just found you this morning while looking for some info on 3-legged wonders! We are adopting a very recent hind leg amputee (just 3 days ago) and will pick her up the day after tomorrow. Ginny is an 11 month old yellow lab. She was signed over to the vet clinic, by her previous owners, for euthansia after she was hit by a car and needed her hind leg amputated. Because of some VERY kind people, Ginny was given a second chance and has had her leg amputated. My husband and I saw an e-mail that went out about her and called immediately to adopt her. You see, 15 years ago we had another beautiful yellow lab, Sandy, who became a front leg amputee due to cancer. Unfortunately, she passed away several months after her surgery as the cancer had spread. She was truly a wonderful friend and we still miss her. When we saw the picture of Ginny yesterday, we both immediately realized that we had to give this beautiful puppy a home.
I'm delighted to find this community! I'm sure I will have questions and it appears that you will be a fount of information!
Welcome and bless you for saving Ginny! She is simply adorable.
You'll find lots of recovery and care tips in Jerry's Required Reading List, and for immediate answers to the most common dog amputation questions download the new Tripawds e-book Three Legs and A Spare.

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! I have a couple of pics of Ginny taken at the Vet Clinic that I have been looking at since yesterday! Can someone tell me where to post them?
I can't wait to pick her up tomorrow and bring her home. We have to drive 4-hours each way, so it's going to be a long day but well worth it!

Ah yes, welcome to the family, a great place to be. I think that is so pawsome you guys are giving Ginny a second chance, don't worry, you won't be sorry. your next couple weeks may not be the easiest, but once she heals and gets used to her new family it will be well worth it. I really think these guys know when we are helping them or giving them a second chance, and I think you will find with Ginny a bond you never felt, and the nice thing is your not dealing with cancer. Oh yea, if you get a chance to grab a few Z's, take it, sleep might be a little irratic for awhile. What a great gift for both you guys and Ginny. Don't be afraid to ask anything, you will probably have something your not sure about and you are about to learn more than you ever thought in the next few weeks, experience gives the best answers, Big paws up,Spirit Gus and Dan
My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010
