I am sorry to hear that you are here because of cancer. But you have come to the right place for lots of support and advice. I think you have already gotten lots of good advice from the wonderful people on this site. Keeping floors non slip with lots of rugs will make such a difference. Magnum was a rear leg amp. We used a ramp to get her in and out of the car but a harness was invaluable later on.
Looking forward to hearing more about your lovely dog.

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear about your boy but it sounds like he's doing great so far! Our shepherd just had her rear leg amputated last Thursday so we're going through this for the first time as well. The harness as been a lifesaver for our girl and makes it easier to help her get around the house and in and out of the car 🙂 I can sympathize with feeling like your temporarily losing your constant companion as my dogs go with me everywhere and having to take it slow is just as tough for me as it is for Sasha! Slowly but surely things will get back to normal Wishing Jake a speedy recovery!

It's good that you have a single level home. Throw rugs work great at home. What about at your office? Are the floors slick? Some folks here have purchased booties for their pups (or you might find some on the angel exchange) but we never tried that with Abby. I'm pretty sure she would have refused them! One thing we used with her was "Musher's Secret" - it's a wax you rub on the paws that gives a bit more traction on slippery floors. (And it doesn't leave little waxy pawprints behind...) Also if his feet are fluffy, keeping the hair trimmed might help.
If he likes attention, then he should love being a tripawd - tripawds get LOTS of attention, especially when people see how well they get around.
Hope he breezes through the rest of his recovery,
Jackie
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

You are all so encouraging! So wonderful to be able to have such a support system!
I had to go to the office today for a few hours, when I got home the futon (it is on a frame) I had been sleeping on in the den to be near Jake was "out of sorts". I realized it was because Jake had climbed up to take a nap. He had gotten up on the futon! How he did it, I am still clueless. But he did it!
The surgical site is healing well. Hopefully the staples will come out by the end of the week.
You all have me knowing he will soon be back at the office with me.
Thank you, thank you again!
Hi! We also just want to welcome you here! The information and support is worth sooo much! Jake is beautiful and have such a nice color! I can just say like others here that the first two weeks it really can goes up and down. Some days you feel so positive and others you feel afraid something bad will happen. But the dogs almost always cope with it so well. I think during the first two weeks you are so tired after maybe little sleep, much worry and so on. After about a month I didn't think so much about Penny being a tripawd. She was then and is today almost like she was with four legs . Wish you all the best!/ Gunilla, Penny and Wilbur
