Brought Jaime home on Friday and everything is going really well! We're best friends already, haha. He's gotten VERY attached very quickly. Potty training has been a breeze - we've had a few accidents but we're going 48 hours without any incidents right now.
He really doesn't like his leash, I think because he's afraid of being pulled around and tripping on his gimpy leg, so we work on that a little bit everyday. However, it hasn't been much of an obstacle because he's a natural 'off-leasher.' On potty trips and walks he won't go much more than a foot or two away from me, even if other dogs or people pass! I only do this around my complex though because its mostly vacant and very quiet.
The only other issue we've been having is crate training...as soon as I leave his sight he starts screaming. Despite everyone's insistence, I've been refusing to crate him at night. He's in his crate all day while I'm at work (I do stop home at lunch) so I feel its unfair to crate him during the evening too, so he sleeps on my bed with me. Though I felt very strange doing it haha, I set up two skype accounts so that I can video call at work and see if he's still making a lot of noise. He seems to quiet down after a couple minutes.
First vet appointment went great, he got the parvo/distemper vaccine and another round of dewormer. This vet isn't the one that will be doing the amputation but she highly recommended scapular as well so that was a comfort to me. The rescue will not be getting involved with the decision either and has left it up to me. I have a few options right now, which is to do the amputation sooner rather than later and push the neutering off until a later date, or to wait for sixteen weeks and do both at the same time. The vet assured me that, in her opinion, with his size he would do fine with a 4 month neuter. I will be calling the amputation vet and discussing it with them in the near future.
He's so stinking cute!! Im so glad he's doing so well with you! I can't wait to see more pictures and watch him grow up.

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”
Domino had his left front leg amputate on May 13th 2014 after being hit by a car. He's now living a happy healthy life on three legs :)
Ohhhh my dog look at how happy and content he is! That is beautiful and says it all...he is home for good.
So many decisions to make. Let us know what the vet says and what you decide to do. Sometimes you just have to do what's best for your pack, you're the only one who knows for sure. Sounds like everything is going to turn out great.

He is just precious!! Glad he has finally made his way to your home for good. Don't feel bad or weird about letting Jaime sleep in bed with you...my husband and I have let Lucky, Leland, and now Lucian sleep with us (not all at the same time of course). They provide a wonderful sense of comfort when they snuggle up against you.
Anyway, I wish you and Jaime the best for his upcoming procedure and hope he has a smooth recovery...the little fella sure deserves it!

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
He is so adorable!! I want to just hug him. Give him a hug and a good pet for me will you?

Smore is my tripawd kitty who adopted me one summer evening. She had an injury to her front left leg and had to have her leg removed July 17th. She was only 3 or 4 months old at the time. Now she moves faster than some four legged cats!
He is so adorable! Don't have much to add, but I do want to send my best wishes for everything, and do hope you keep us updated on your little guy. Decisions are sometimes difficult, but follow your heart with what is best for him, and you can never be wrong.
Keeping you and Jaime in my thoughts,
Bonnie and Angel Polly
P.S. I think him sleeping in bed with you is perfectly ok, lol !! I personally have not slept in my bed without a dog at my feet for almost 30 years!!!! Just can't sleep without one.......ever.......
