Well for a dog who's amputation went so nicely. Back up and out on easy walks with in 24 hours ect, this sure has been hard. Mr Quixote has started falling A LOT. Not on slippery surfaces either just randomly he falls. It's almost like the remaining back leg gives out? It doesnt seem to bother him or hurt. He gets up and runs off again. But its worry some.
He is also back to his old tricks of not wanting to walk down some trails. Instead he just sits at the trail head until I am out of sight. Its only trails we have been on a lot, so I dont think its a pain thing I really do think he is just that opinionated. He will also occasionally walk directly behind me on hikes, this is annoying because I would rather he was running around being a dog. Again he does this only on trails he doesnt like or that we use fairly often. I think he gets bored of the same hikes/ walks and protests them.
For now his skin cancer seems to be under control. He has very few lesions, no swelling or tenderness ect. So atleast I am not worried about that for the moment. This dog is lucky he is loved, I am seriously getting grey hairs because of him.
That Quixote is such a special boy! Personality galore!
I know you don't think his lagging behind, or sitting and refusing to move is not a sign of being tired, or maybe even some "tired pain". I keep gping back to a previous post where this same "behavior" was addressed by Jerry as exhaustion/tired. As you already know, it takes so much effort to walk on three legs. That was, and is now, what makes sense ro me too. However, you know your dog best and we can't "hike in your shoes" so to speak. Once you "give in" and hike a different path is he immediately running about, running ahead, not sitting or resting? I guess that would indicate he is far more clever than any of us are giving him credit.
As far as the weakness in the back leg, if that's what it is, perhaps you coukd have a rehab specialist check him out if your regular vet doesn't find any underlying strain, joint wear and tear, disc issues, etc.
We're all cheering for this precious JRT! They are such feisty little dogs (who think they are HUGE)!
Would love to see pictures..HINT!!
Hugs ro you and all the pack!
